Angelina Jolie has maintained a strong and positive bond with her ex-husband, Jonny Lee Miller, more than 25 years after their marriage ended.

The actress recently reflected on their relationship while attending the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where she was honored with the Maltin Modern Master Award.

During a conversation with film critic Leonard Maltin, Jolie was presented with a montage of her past film roles, which included a clip from the 1995 cyber-thriller Hackers.

The film, in which she starred alongside Miller, marked the beginning of their connection.

Shortly after filming, the pair married in 1996, though their marriage ended in divorce three years later.

As the Hackers clip played, Jolie commented on the moment with warmth, stating, “I was just saying to somebody, it’s really funny because I think you’re starting with Hackers, right?”

She then acknowledged Miller’s presence in the scene, adding, “Yeah, it’s Jonny. I just talked to him. I love that—I get to see my ex-husband with 2,000 people.”

Jolie, 49, expressed her fondness for Miller, emphasizing that despite their divorce, they have remained close over the years. “It’s amazing. It’s so nice to see it,” she said of the film clip. “Actually, it’s funny, I don’t really watch my own films, and so I don’t think I’ve seen it since the premiere. But I do have a wonderful relationship with Jonny, and he and I have sons the same age, and I’m so happy.”

Since their split in 1999, both Jolie and Miller have moved forward in their personal lives. Miller later married actress Michele Hicks, with whom he shares a son, Buster, born in 2008. Their marriage lasted from 2008 until their divorce in 2016. Meanwhile, Jolie went on to marry and divorce actors Billy Bob Thornton and Brad Pitt, with whom she shares six children.

Jolie and Miller’s enduring friendship has been evident over the years. In June 2021, she was spotted visiting Miller’s apartment in New York City while accompanied by her children. Reports at the time suggested that Miller’s son Buster and Jolie’s son Knox, now 16, had formed a friendship, which may have been the reason for their meeting.

Miller has spoken about their time together in rare comments over the years, recalling some of their adventurous moments as a couple. He previously shared a memory of a “terrifying” parachuting date with Jolie, emphasizing her fearless nature.

Their iconic film Hackers remains a cult classic, with its influence still felt decades later. The movie, which also featured Jesse Bradford, Matthew Lillard, Fisher Stevens, Lorraine Bracco, and Marc Anthony, portrayed high school hackers caught up in a cybercrime conspiracy. Director Iain Softley acknowledged the film’s impact and, in a 2020 interview, mentioned that discussions about a sequel had been ongoing. However, he admitted that the rapidly evolving landscape of technology presented challenges in creating a relevant follow-up.

For Jolie, her journey in Hollywood continues to evolve. While her film career remains successful, she has indicated that her children are not particularly interested in following in her footsteps. She has previously stated, “None of my kids are dying to be in movies. They really don’t like the celebrity part.”

Despite her high-profile career, Jolie’s lasting friendship with Miller is a testament to the deep connections that can endure beyond marriage. Their continued camaraderie, mutual respect, and shared experiences highlight the unique bond they have maintained for more than two decades.
