On Thursday night, the Golden State Warriors faced off against the Orlando Magic, securing an impressive 121-115 victory. The win was highlighted by a historic performance from the franchise’s star, Stephen Curry, who exploded for 56 points in a thrilling comeback.
Immediately after the win, Curry grabbed the game ball and handed it off to his security guard, Yusuf Wright. In an interview on “Warriors Postgame Live” with Bonta Hill, Chris Mullin, and Festus Ezeli, Curry shared why he decided to keep the ball.
“I knew about the 50-point thing, which is a cool honor,” Curry said. “Just longevity. With every gray hair that pops up on top of your head, you get to appreciate moments and milestones like this.
Very, very special. Just scoring the basketball— I love to do it. I love having nights like these, and I just want to soak it all in.”
The Warriors’ superstar shot 16 of 25 from the field, including 12 of 19 from beyond the arc, and went a perfect 12-for-12 from the free-throw line.
This marked the third time in his career Curry has hit 12 three-pointers in a game, just two shy of tying Klay Thompson’s single-game NBA record of 14. His 56 points were the fourth-most in his storied 16-year career.

Team performance
While Curry’s 56-point explosion stole the show, the rest of the Warriors’ starting five combined for just 35 points. Draymond Green contributed 12 points, Moses Moody added 10, Brandin Podziemski chipped in 8, and Jimmy Butler scored a modest 5 points.
Despite the team’s relatively quiet performance, second-round pick Quinten Post was a standout. Post logged a plus-22 in 24 minutes off the bench, scoring 18 crucial points.

It seems no coincidence that Curry continues to make history on these specific dates, with the crowd chanting “MVP” throughout the game. February 27th has become a day that marks memorable milestones in Curry’s career.
It all began in 2013, when a young Steph Curry began to solidify himself as one of the league’s elite players, dropping 54 points against the New York Knicks.
He followed that up with a 46-point performance in 2016, hitting 12 three-pointers against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Now, in 2025, Curry once again lit up the scoreboard with 56 points and 12 three-pointers in a win over the Magic.
