He’s the Married At First Sight star who became quite the villain on his season thanks to a cheating scandal

Following his controversial edit on the 2017 series, he then went on to appear in another reality series, Dancing With The Stars.

His turn on the Channel Seven series was short-lived, however, with the star eliminated from the show in the first round after a lacklustre Mad Max-inspired tango.

These days, the star bills himself as a MAFS innovator and common sense advocate on Instagram, where he boasts 84,000 followers.

His time away from the camera has not been without controversy either, with the star dropped by his management in 2023 following comments about a drag queen storytime event.

While he failed to find love on the Channel Nine reality experiment, he has since found love with another reality star, with the pair becoming engaged in 2023.

Prior to finding reality show fame, the star trod the boards in a hardcore punk rock band, as resurfaced footage reveals.

But can you guess who it is?

That’s right! It’s none other than Dean Wells.

Back in the day, Dean was the bass player for Newcastle-based outfit Disengage during his teenage years.

It appears the band were quite popular in their hometown of Newcastle, too, with the footage, shot at the now-defunct Islington Park Bowling Club, showing a packed house of local punks moshing with abandon to the fast and furious tunes.

He also looked a far cry from the Dean Wells that reality fans came to know, sporting a shaggy mop of hair and a much more wiry frame than his 2025 form.

During the early 1990s Dean was a regular fixture in underground punk venues in Newcastle, playing with the band who developed quite a following.

Aside from their own material which included songs with titles like Rust, the band also covered material by Brazilian metal combo Sepultura and Cleveland, Ohio punks Ringworm.

The band were heavily influenced by Washington DC punk rock band Minor Threat whose frontman Ian MacKaye was one of the first to popularise the straight edge lifestyle in punk rock.

Straight edge is a subculture of hardcore punk in which adherents abstain from drugs, tobacco, alcohol and promiscuous sex.

Ironically, Dean generated major chatter during his time on the show for engaging in a fling with co-star Davina Rankin, much to the chagrin of his ‘bride’ Tracey Jewell.

Dean gave fans a  glimpse into his punk rock past back in 2018, taking to Instagram to share a bevy of photos of his former band.

One photo showed Dean looking studiously at his fret-board as he belted out a number.

Another showed him hunkered over his instrument as the band’s frontman, clad in a pair of McDonald’s pants leaped into the air with punk rock angst and abandon.

One showed him, ‘mid-mosh’ with the band’s guitarist on stage, while a fourth featured Dean onstage filling in on bass for Orange County, California punks Ignite.

Dean, who also had a short-lived foray into hip hop, flowing into the mic under the name MC Visionz, was full of warmhearted reminiscences over the images.

‘Here’s a few pics of me from back when I played in my old Newcastle hard core punk rock band Disengage,’ Dean wrote. ‘We were a socio politically focused fast and loud punk/rock band.

He continued: ‘we used to have the most rowdy gigs ever.!! Miss those times. Before I turned into a rapper,’ adding the hashtags #punkrock #sjw #newcastlepunkrock #veganpunk and #visionz.’

Dean’s co-star John Robertson chimed in, urging him to get back on stage with: ‘Big Dean – one thing to say mate – you looked so cool. Get the band back together I say.’

Fellow MAFS alum Ryan Gallagher also joined the conversation with: ‘Still got the same shoes.’
