The beloved comedian has officially been inducted into the Hall of Fame, noting that her cancer diagnosis had nothing to do with it.

Magda Szubanski has been inducted into the Hall of Fame at the 65th Annual TV WEEK Logies Awards, and while the country rejoices, some are questioning why it has taken so long for the beloved comedian to receive recognition for her longstanding career.

Magda — who stole the nation’s heart playing Kath & Kim’s iconic Sharon Strzelecki — has previously won seven Logies and was named the Most Popular Person on Television in 2003 and 2004. However, the Hall of Fame honour officially cements her as a national treasure.

Many Aussies have taken to social media to express their disdain for the delay of the honour.

“I am slightly concerned as to why Magda is being inducted now. Well deserved, should have been done years ago,” one Aussie said, while another called out TV WEEK magazine for taking so long.

“I said love, I said pet, TV WEEK magazine should be ashamed of themselves that it’s taken this long for Magda Szubanski to be inducted into the hall of fame at the Logies 2025. #SharonStrzeleckiForGold.”

Magda’s induction was announced just months after she revealed her stage 4 blood cancer diagnosis, and some have suggested her career is only now being recognised because of her declining health.

However, Magda addressed this rumour in her pre-recorded acceptance speech, saying the recognition is not a result of her cancer but instead of “years of hard work”.

Australians watching the awards show from home admitted the highlight reel of Magda’s career and her emotional acceptance speech left them feeling incredibly emotional themselves.

“Magda Szubanski you legend. You just made me cry in front of my parents, literally an icon,” one said, while another confessed they were “choked up”.

“Congratulations Magda Szubanski on being inducted to the TV Week Logie Awards Hall of Fame! You are a pioneer of Aussie comedy and one of my biggest inspirations. Your speech has got me in tears!! I love you,” a third said.

Magda was born on the 12th of April 1961, making her 64 years old.

She first appeared on our screen over 40 years ago, and not only played many iconic roles such as Sister Dominique in Ride Like a Girl and Mrs. Esme Cordelia Hoggett in Babe, she’s also an LGBTQI+ advocate and released an award-winning memoir titled Reckoning.
