Chicago Blackhawks forward Connor Bedard

In another match-up between Connor Bedard and his idol Sidney Crosby, a video surfaced tonight where Bedard looks fed up and ready to get out of Chicago.

The Chicago Blackhawks are taking on the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight in PPG Paints Arena, and the night isn’t looking great for Bedard.

The Hawks fell 5-0 to the Penguins, who gave the team a thumping to remember. The Blackhawks only have four games left in the season after this one, and you have to ponder what Bedard is thinking in the video clip below.

You can see a range of emotions on his face, as he goes through contemplation and by the end disgust.

With numerous NHL Insiders, including Elliotte Friedman and TSN’s Craig Button, telling Bedard to hold off signing an extension this summer, will he request a trade from the team that drafted him?

«The Chicago Blackhawks are awful,» Button said. «If I was Bedard’s agent, I wouldn’t sign him to any extension.

«There’s no benefit to signing early. He’ll make the same money if he waits until next July. Plus, waiting opens him up to potential offer sheets.»

That’d be a death blow for the reputation of the Blackhawks, who spent their lottery pick in 2023 on Connor Bedard. He’s done his best to put the team on his back, but hasn’t been rewarded with the ancillary pieces the team needs to take the next step forward.

The team is now 22-46-10 and remains 8th in the Central Division and in line for another lottery pick.

Given the chatter amongst the media pundits in NHL spaces, if I were Bedard, I’d hold GM Kyle Davidson’s feet to the fire as his strategies have failed to deliver any fruit this season.

Just rotten apple, upon rotten apple.

Instead of waiting for 2026 and a slew of offer sheets to arrive, should he request a trade now?
