Seems like it’s shaping up to be Han and Can vs. everyone else on The Block this season.
It seems there’s a division forming between the contestants on this season of The Block – but it might be entirely one-sided, as the other party doesn’t seem to understand what all the drama is about.
The contestants escaped the worksite at the tail end of Monday’s episode for a group dinner at a local pub – all, that is, except WA couple Han and Can, who apparently don’t score a personal invite to the outing.
The dinner was initially organised by South Australian team Robby and Mat, and would also act as a reunion for Mat with his partner and their newborn son.
As the group piled into cars to head out, Victorian couple Emma and Ben stopped to check if Han and Can would like a lift.
Mat (left) and Robby organised a group dinner – but left two people off the invite list.
“I don’t think we’re invited. I don’t think so. It’s not that vibe,” Han told Emma.
Emma explained that all teams were invited, and asked if they’d received a message from Robby with the details of the dinner.
“Nah, no message – and that’s enough,” said Han, retreating back inside her caravan and slamming the door behind her.
Speaking to the cameras, Robby explained that his lack of invite for Han and Can wasn’t about excluding them, more about protecting the health of the larger group (and Mat’s newborn baby).
The gang’s all here (except for Han and Can).
“They weren’t ‘not invited,’ they were not allowed to come. They have been extremely unwell, and I don’t want to be in that position. I think if you were going to come, it would be selfish,” he said.
But it seems Han and Can read their exclusion as a sub.
Han (left) and Can appeared to take the exclusion personally.
“I’ve experienced [things like this] in primary school and high school, it’s not my first rodeo. It would’ve been nice to have been asked, and then said we can’t because we’re really sick,” said Han.
Still, she insisted, “it didn’t affect me that much … If I let that affect me, I would not survive here, that’s for sure.”
It was another minor controversy for Han and Can, perhaps the only contestants bringing the drama in a Block season that’s big on cohesion and politeness.
The pair have had frequent clashes with Block foreman Dan, who in Sunday’s episode resorted to spying on them in security camera footage to prove that they’d been lying to him and breaking Block rules.
