We are still waiting for the announcement of Jacob Fowler’s signing by Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens. According to multiple sources, it really seems to be just a matter of time.

However, there’s an important decision to be made.

Will Fowler sign an NHL entry-level contract that takes effect immediately in order to finish the season with the Montreal Canadiens?

Or will he sign an NHL entry-level contract that begins next fall, so he can finish the season with the Laval Rocket?

This dilemma appears to be the real reason behind the delay.

Fowler’s teammates, Ryan Leonard and Gabe Perreault, have already signed their NHL contracts (this happened yesterday).

So don’t be surprised if the announcement comes out today for Fowler.

A start as early as Sunday for Jacob Fowler with the Montreal Canadiens?

That’s exactly the suggestion that was just made by Vincent Damphousse.

Here is the exact quote.

Vincent Damphousse, on RDS’s L’Antichambre, said that if the Canadiens sign Jacob Fowler this week, they should throw him into action Sunday against the Nashville Predators as the starter:

“All of his life, he’s wanted to reach the NHL.

He’s always performed well under pressure. Why wouldn’t he be able to perform just because there’s pressure?

On the contrary, I think he’ll play one hell of a game if they give him an opportunity, because there is pressure, we need to win and that’s Fowler’s reputation. I’m not scared with him.”
