The Block viewers are calling for Han and Can to be ‘disqualified’ after former contestant Lysandra Fraser called them out for copying one of her designs from last year’s season. Lysandra and her twin sister, Alisa, collaborated with Kristian and Mimi last season to design a kitchenette and cinema room for the clubhouse, which earned a perfect score of 30/30 and was hailed as one of the show’s best rooms.

However, during an appearance on The Block Podcast with Shelley Craft, Lysandra said that she thought Han and Can’s rumpus room looked quite familiar. When asked about the room, Lysandra said, “This is a bit of a hard decision for me… because I feel like I’ve seen the girls’ design before, somewhere. Maybe, pretty similar to the cinema room we designed with Mimi and Kristian last year?”

Shelley responded, “Which was drop-dead gorgeous! And anyone else in Australia should be taking design inspiration from said cinema last year!”

“Obviously, there were certain elements like the padded – the upholstered wall, which we didn’t do, but the curves and the colour palette and the inset acoustic ceiling and the lighting…” Lysandra said.

“And they did it beautifully well,” Shelley added.

“They did, I think they fell short probably for me with their styling and maybe the choice of artwork, I mean, it was fine,” Lysandra said. “I really loved that U-shaped couch, and it was really significant to be able to fit 10 or 12 people – like to get that in, I thought it was really clever. And I do definitely think a room like that would definitely be used, without a shadow of a doubt.”

Shelley asked if she thought the colour palette would have changed Lysandra’s mind, to which she responded, “I think it would have made a difference, and it would have felt more original.”

“Out of all of the rooms, it was probably the most intricate room with the panelling and the acoustic panelling and the arches, so I think from that perspective, I think their room was the most intricate.”

The Block fans respond to shock claims Han and Can copied Lysandra’s work

The Block fans have weighed in on the situation, and many agree with Lysandra that the girls took inspiration from their cinema room.

“Absolutely copied that design, not original at all,” wrote one fan.

“OMG! How did the judges not pick that up?” another questioned.

“Those girls should be disqualified!” a third said.

“Damn, I thought we were the only ones that noticed,” someone else wrote. “I guess original ideas from the girls are only seen in the spa rooms. Otherwise it’s copy copy.”

“Haha we said the same thing,” yet another said.

“Queens of copy pasting ideas,” someone else joked.

Others, however, didn’t agree, with one person responding, “There are no original designs… every one of those teams use Pinterest and other platforms for inspiration.”

“I’ve seen a hundred designs that look like that all over Pinterest,” another said. “If the supposed copied room was last year, it definitely wasn’t original.”

“Clutching at straws here Lysandra…” a third added.

“It’s a competition, they want to win, getting inspiration from other winning rooms is not against the rules, it was not a exact copy,” someone else wrote.

Some also thought the two rooms looked “nothing alike”, what do you think?
