Shakira Concert Postponed Due to Safety Concerns One Week After Cancelling Show for Health Issues
Shakira’s highly anticipated Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran world tour has hit another setback, as her scheduled concert in Medellín, Colombia, has been postponed due to safety concerns.
This development comes just a week after the singer had to cancel a show in Peru because of health issues.
The Colombian pop star was set to perform at the Atanasio Girardot Stadium in Medellín on February 24.
However, event organizers announced on February 23 that the concert would not proceed as planned due to structural issues with the venue’s stage setup.
The promoters cited potential risks related to damage sustained by the roof of the stage, deeming the situation unsafe for Shakira, her crew, and the audience.
Organizers Cite Safety Concerns
Concert promoter Páramo Presenta issued a statement explaining that during the setup for the event, the roof structure experienced damage that could pose a danger to those attending the show.
The organizers emphasized that the safety of everyone involved was their top priority and, as a result, they had no choice but to postpone the performance.
“The promoter and the artist’s team are working together and hope to reschedule the date in the future,” the statement read. “We understand that this decision may be frustrating for fans who were eagerly anticipating the concert, but safety must come first.”
Shakira Expresses Disappointment
Shakira, 48, personally addressed the postponement in a heartfelt message to her fans on social media. Posting on X (formerly Twitter), she wrote in Spanish, “My people of Medellín! It pains me deeply that I cannot take the stage and sing for you as I had planned.”
The singer also mentioned that her two sons, Milan, 12, and Sasha, 10, had traveled to Colombia with her and were looking forward to experiencing Medellín.
She expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to fans, especially those who had traveled long distances to attend the event.
However, she reassured her audience that her team was actively working on finding a new date to make up for the postponement.
“I love you all so much, and I hope to see you very soon,” she concluded.
Páramo Presenta also confirmed that Shakira’s Colombian tour dates are being rescheduled and that they are working on organizing additional concerts in more than one city in the country later in the year.
Postponement Follows Recent Health Scare
The Medellín postponement marks the second disruption to Shakira’s tour within a week. On February 16, the singer was forced to cancel her performance in Peru due to an abdominal issue that required hospitalization.
Shakira revealed on social media that she had been admitted to the emergency room on February 15 after experiencing severe abdominal pain. Following medical evaluation, doctors advised her not to perform, leading to the cancellation of her show at the National Stadium of Peru.
“I am very sad to not be able to take the stage as I had been looking forward to reuniting with my incredible fans here in Peru,” Shakira said at the time.
Like the Medellín concert, the Peruvian show is also expected to be rescheduled, though no official date has been announced yet.
Shakira’s Commitment to Fans
Despite these recent setbacks, Shakira remains dedicated to her fans and her tour. She kicked off the Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour in Rio de Janeiro on February 11, and the singer is expected to continue performing as soon as logistical and health concerns are resolved.
Shakira’s postponements highlight the unpredictability that can come with large-scale touring, whether due to health-related matters or unexpected safety concerns.
Fans remain hopeful that she will soon return to the stage to deliver the performances they have been eagerly waiting for.
With her team actively working on rescheduling dates, supporters in both Peru and Colombia can still look forward to experiencing Shakira’s live show in the near future.
