As NBA teams shoot more and more threes, even fans are flourishing from downtown.

On Monday night, a Houston Rockets fan became the latest attendee to create a magical moment. During a matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers, a fan won $25,000 by making a half-court shot at the Toyota Center.

The man hurled his shot before the stadium’s public-address announcer could finish his countdown. To the delight of everyone in attendance, he banked the deep attempt to receive a massive check.

“I am just absolutely amazed,” the announcer declared.

Here’s a look at the fan’s half-court conversion:

Fans seem to be getting better at half-court shots. A Cleveland Cavaliers fan made one to win $10,000 last month, and a Los Angeles Clippers fan earned a free trip to Hawaii by hurling a one-handed bomb that got stuck on the rim before falling into the net.

They may feel short-changed since a Los Angeles Lakers fan recently made $100,000 for accomplishing the same task.

Is the average person more skilled at shooting basketballs? Are they training for the slim chance of getting chosen to attempt a half-court heave at an NBA arena? Or is it random happenstance that a few fans got lucky within a short timeframe?

Unfortunately for the Rockets, the 76ers have followed that fan’s lead. Playing without Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey, they reached 100 points during the third quarter by making 18 of their first 30 three-point attempts.

Quentin Grimes has 23 points, and undrafted rookie Justin Edwards has scored 18 in his 16th career start. However, the 23-44 Eastern Conference squad hasn’t secured an upset over the 43-25 Rockets.

Down by as many as 25, Houston narrowed the deficit to four late in the third quarter. The Rockets are shooting 50.7 percent from the floor with 14 three-point makes.
