Tensions have emerged on this year’s season of The Block after one team wasn’t invited to a group event in Monday night’s episode. Han and Can, who were recently accused of copying Sonny and Alicia’s designs, awkwardly revealed that they hadn’t been invited to a dinner organised by Robby and Mat.

While fans have since speculated on social media that there is a divide growing amongst the cast, especially considering this wasn’t the first time Han and Can had missed a group dinner, Robby and Mat assert that this isn’t the case. The best mates tell Yahoo Lifestyle that the only reason why the girls weren’t invited was because they were unwell, and Robby’s young son, Brooks, was going to be at the dinner.

“I can tell you right now, there is 100 per cent no ‘exclusion scandal’ at all, that was blown out of the water,” Mat says. “The girls were kindly uninvited not to come because they and every workman on their side was so sick that we didn’t want to run the risk of us getting sick or baby Brooks, or the pregnant lady [Emma].

“It’s just about social awareness. Like, if I was sick, as sick as they were, I would just say, ‘Hey guys, I’m sitting this one out’.”

Mat, who admits that he ended up catching their illness by the end of the week, adds that he believes Han and Can got sick because they had a much smaller team and were working harder than anyone else.

“They were so sick. They’d worked themselves into the ground, and they were vulnerable, but they got themselves sick,” he remarks.

Are The Block 2025 contestants still friends?

Despite the recent tension on the show, Robby and Mat reveal that the cast has stayed close since filming wrapped, and there’s no bad blood or existing feuds.

“No one’s left the group chat; we speak every day,” Robby shares. “Mat and I went on that show with just the two of us, and we left with eight very close mates that we’ll have for the rest of our lives

“I think that’s pretty special, considering the last handful of years when some contestants don’t even speak to each other. This year was really nice to leave this whole crazy thing with eight best mates.”

The reason why this year’s teams got along so well

Mat shares that the reason why the teams all got along so well this season is because, in addition to the casting agents doing a “phenomenal job”, they spent a lot of time together at night.

“Because this is a new building and there was no certificate for occupancy, people weren’t left to their own devices at night,” he explains. “Because what [normally] happens is, you’re on a TV show, so stuff’s going to be said and you’re going to go back to your house and go, ‘Well, Sonny and Alicia did this and blah blah blah’.”

Instead of scheming and gossiping, Mat admits that this year’s cast would spend their nights sitting around their caravans together “singing kumbaya like some little gypsy cult”.

“If we had any issues or whatever, we could be like, ‘Hey, what about this?’ and they could be like, ‘No, that was out of context, it was more like this’,” he details. “We could share our trials and tribulations of the day because s**t went wrong, left, right and centre all day, every day, and we were there to support each other.”
