Stephen Curry has made history yet again by becoming the first player to hit 4,000 3-pointers in the NBA.

No one could have even imagined 15-20 years ago that a player would ever get to 4,000, and Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr believes Curry has plenty more threes left in him.

After Curry hit that milestone in the Warriors’ 130-104 win over the Sacramento Kings on Thursday, Kerr was asked how many he reckons the guard might end up hitting if he stays healthy.

The 59-year-old initially joked about Curry getting to 8,000 threes and then guaranteed that he’d get to 5,000.

“It just seems like it was not too long ago that he broke the record,” Kerr said, via KNBR. “What was that? Less than 3000? … So, he just keeps going.

The way he keeps himself in shape, in condition, in rhythm, he’ll make another 1,000, for sure. That’s what I would guess, but who knows?”

Curry broke Ray Allen’s record of 2,973 threes in a game against the New York Knicks on Dec. 14, 2021. It has taken him more than three years to get to 4,000 from that point, so it’s not going to be easy to get to 5,000.

Curry, who had 11 points, two rebounds, five assists, one steal and one block against the Kings, is 37 years old now, and it’s hard to fancy his chances of still being a dominant player when he’s 40. Sure, LeBron James is still dominating at that age, but there is no guarantee that anyone else will be able to do it as well.

So, as of now, it does seem unlikely that Curry, for as great as he is, will hit the 5,000-mark. The 11-time All-Star has proven his doubters wrong time and time again in his career, though, so no one can completely rule out the possibility just yet.

Curry wouldn’t be too bothered about that next milestone at present, as his focus is on the Warriors’ next game. They take on the Knicks at Chase Center on Saturday.
