Dancing With The Stars viewers were baffled watching Sunday night’s episode when one contestant was sent home in a shock elimination. The six celebrities in group two took to the dance floor for the second time this season, with their scores from both performances combined on the leaderboard.

This put Mia Fevola in first place with a total of 57 points, while Felicity Ward had 53 points, Shaun Micallef had 48 points, Kyle Shilling had 45 points, Karina Carvalho had 43 points, and Osher Günsberg trailed behind with 27 points. It appeared as though Osher’s fate was written on the wall, with the former Bachelor host admitting that it was a “mathematical impossibility” that he would dance again.

However, after the live studio audience cast their vote, hosts Sonia Kruger and Dr Chris Brown announced that 7NEWS Melbourne presenter Karina was eliminated after landing at the bottom of the leaderboard.

Osher appeared visibly shocked by the announcement and blew a kiss to the judges before running off the stage with his dance partner, Sriani Argaet.

It wasn’t long before fans took to social media to criticise the show’s format and question how Karina was sent home when she was well above Osher on the leaderboard before the audience voted.

“Karina was robbed,” one person declared, while another added, “I can’t believe that elimination”.

“The mechanics of the show is not right. It’s a dance show, not a popularity show. It’s not fair at all,” a third replied, followed by someone else who said, “I was absolutely shocked that she went home and not Osher!”.

“Can’t believe you lost out to Osher. That audience is cooked… should only be based on judges scores,” a different user argued, with another writing, “That’s why you have judges, isn’t it?”.

“Obviously Osher’s family and friends were all in the audience tonight voting or he has it in his contract that he doesn’t go home first week… not the first time it’s happened!” someone speculated.

Meanwhile, many fans were thrilled with the outcome and said Osher “deserved to stay” because of the significant improvement he had already shown in the competition.

“I’m sad that anyone has to leave but I’m glad it wasn’t you. You seem to have just so much fun out there. Your family are so proud I’m sure! Well done,” one fan wrote.

“Obviously you were shocked @osher_gunsberg but it was a huge difference to dance #1 and in true reality TV form the audience vote really counted,” another commented, while a different user said, “Way to go Osher!”.

“You made me smile all the way through and even clapped at the end… while watching on my own! You’re amazing. Fantastic job. Your score was an absolute ripoff”.
