Not only does MasterChef Australia showcase some of the most talented cooks in the country, but it also establishes plenty of lifelong friendships. From Andy Allen and Ben Milbourne to Cath Collins and Rhiannon Anderson, the series has seen many contestants stay close after filming wrapped and even collaborate outside of the MasterChef kitchen.

While many viewers have been left with a MasterChef-shaped hole in their heart following last month’s season finale, it was recently announced that six fan favourite contestants would be teaming up for an exciting new project. Audra Morrice, Sumeet Saigal, Amina Elshafei, Sarah Tiong, Jimmy Wong, and Rashi Hasan will be reuniting for a special pop-up event in Sydney on Wednesday, September 3.

The talented group of cooks will take over Surry Hills restaurant OGNI, co-owned by Rashi and Sarah, to create a unique dining experience called Potluck that celebrates friendship, flavour, and creativity. Guests will enjoy a menu where each cook presents a dish that reflects their journey on MasterChef and what they’ve been up to since.

“Each of us is bringing one signature dish that carries a memory – of home, migration, markets, aunties, and late-night kitchen experiments,” Sumeet tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “It’s a six-course journey, plated with heart, with a few playful twists from the OGNI kitchen.

“Expect bold flavours, personal stories, and a dining room that feels like someone just said, ‘Come over—we’ve made too much food.’”

How did this group come together?

Many of the group’s members met while filming MasterChef, with Audra and Jimmy competing alongside one another on season 17, Amina and Sarah growing close on season 12, and Rashi and Sarah becoming friends on season 9.

“We’ve crossed paths through kitchens, markets, and MasterChef – swapping stories, cheering each other on, and taste-testing each other’s food,” Sumeet explains. “Potluck grew from that friendship: six cooks bringing one meaningful dish each, and inviting Sydney to sit at our shared table.”

Rashi explains that they’ve been “swapping recipes, memories, and voice notes” for months, and Potluck allows those conversations to land on a plate.

“This was born out of friendship and curiosity,” Audra adds. “What happens when six cooks bring their truest dish to the same table? Potluck is our answer.”

Why should diners attend?

The group encourage diners to attend the special evening, which features two sittings, to not just eat their food, but meet the person behind it.

“Potluck is intimate, one-night-only, and unrepeatable: six personal recipes, six short stories, and a room full of people who love food that means something,” Sumeet details.

“It’s the kind of dinner you talk about on the way home and wake up still thinking about,” Audra shares, while Rashi adds, “If you love food with a backstory and spice with a purpose, this is your night”.
