A woman who recently arrived in the United States for an arranged marriage has disappeared.
Simran Simran, 24, arrived in the U.S. from India on Friday, June 20, for the “reported prearranged marriage,” according to a news release from the Lindenwold Police Department in New Jersey.
Five days later, on Wednesday, June 25, Simran was reported missing. Police said they were told that “the prearranged marriage may have been used for free airfare to the United States.”
Simran, who does not speak English, was seen on surveillance video “apparently looking at her phone and waiting for someone,” and police said she “did not seem in distress” in the footage.
Additionally, police said Simran is said to have an international phone that only “works on wifi.”
