Shocked My Kitchen Rules viewers have taken to social media after noticing two contestants jaw-dropping “unhygienic” act while cooking at home.

My Kitchen Rules viewers have expressed outrage after some of this year’s contestants were seen preparing food with their hair down.

The Channel 7 cooking juggernaut sees aspiring chefs from across Australia open their homes for a culinary battle in pursuit of a $100,000 prize.

Season 15 hit screens on Monday night with six new teams set to battle it out for kitchen supremacy.

Among this year’s contestants plating up are mother-daughter duo Anne and Maree.

During Tuesday night’s episode, the duo opened their kitchen and honoured their late Yia-yia’s legacy with traditional Greek recipes.

Eagle-eyed fans took to social media to question why neither woman tied their hair up while cooking or plating up their creations.

“Can’t understand why their hair is not tied up!” one viewer wrote.

“Basic hygiene when you’re cooking for guests, and besides, they’ll lose points if a hair is found in the food,” another user agreed.

“Both ladies should tie their hair up, too risky,” a third said.

In an interview with Yahoo Lifestyle, former MKR contestant Hannah Campbell, who appeared on the series last year, claimed that the show’s producers do not expect contestants to tie their hair up while cooking in their own homes.

“You can wear your hair however you like,” she said.

“I’m pretty sure I always chose to wear it up when cooking because I was scared my hair would get into the food.”

However, fellow 2024 contestant Maddie Devereux told the same outlet that the rules change in the latter stages of the competition when contestants cook in “Kitchen HQ”.

“From that point on, hair must always be tied up for hygiene reasons,” she told the same outlet.

Stray hairs ending up in the final dish was a major controversy in season seven of MKR after husband and wife team Lauren and Carmine found a long black hair in a salad plated up by a rival team.
