We had a little surprise today regarding a prospect from the Montreal Canadiens organization. After Jacob Fowler, another young goalie has just arrived as reinforcements within the organization.

Young Mikus Vecvanags has joined the Laval Rocket. Wow.

There’s definitely a growing number of goalies per square foot in Laval.

Let’s not forget that Cayden Primeau and Connor Hughes were already there, Jacob Fowler was added to the mix a few days ago, and now Mikus Vecvanags has arrived in Laval as well.

Vecvanags is the goalie who was “supposed” to play for the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada this season, but he got the short end of the stick.

Martin Lapointe spilled the beans too early: prospect Mikus Vecvanags is heading to Bathurst instead.

Oops!

Here are the images in question.

I’d be surprised if he gets a start, but still!

Note that he is currently the Rocket’s third goalie, since Connor Hughes is injured.

Vecvanags, age 19, is a 6-foot-2, 170-pound netminder who was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the fifth round of the 2024 NHL Draft – 134th overall.

This season in the QMJHL, he posted a goals-against average of 4.38 and a save percentage of .867 (with a record of 1 win and 4 losses).
