What happens if the Steelers sign Aaron Rodgers?

According to ESPN NFL reporter Ian Rapoport, the options for free-agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers have narrowed to two. It’s either sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers or retire. This gives the Steelers hope that playing for them and making tens of millions of dollars is more enticing than retirement but with Rodgers anything is possible.

But if we assume Rodgers does sign with the Steelers and does it in the next three weeks, here’s what we think will happen next.

Huge impact on the draft

We still expect the Steelers to select a quarterback in the 2025 NFL draft but if Rodgers sign, we don’t think Pittsburgh will spend a first-round pick on a player like Jaxson Dart or Jalen Milroe.

The city will stay divided

There will be plenty of debate and disagreement about how good or bad Rodgers will make the Steelers among the fanbase.

Receivers can breathe a sigh of relief

You can bet that when Rodgers signs, George Pickens and DK Metcalf are going to be excited to have Rodgers throwing them the football. He’s going to get those guys the ball regardless of the play call and what offensive coordinator Arthur Smith wants to do.

One thing we know for sure if Rodgers is going to cost a fortune. The Steelers have around $32 million in cap space and a Rodgers contract is going to eat a lot of that up, meaning more veterans will end up being released to save cap space.
