Matthew Tkachuk and Connor McDavid have been rivals for a long time, and after their latest Cup win, Tkachuk took some major shots at the Oilers captain.

When Matthew Tkachuk started his career in Calgary, he became an immediate rival of the Edmonton Oilers and Connor McDavid, and since being traded to Florida, the two teams have met twice in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Their natural rivalry since then has continued, and after winning back-to-back Stanley Cups, it’s safe to say that at this point, the Panthers star winger has all the bragging rights over No. 97.

During the Panthers celebration, Tkachuk didn’t hold back when he had a microphone in hand, hilariously calling out the NHL’s best player as the Panthers celebration rages on in Florida.

Connor McDavid who?

After that, the fans started a ‘F**k McDavid’ chant, and while Tkachuk didn’t join in on that one, he grabbed the microphone again and pointed it to the crowd, encouraging them to continue.

Unsurprisingly, this had many Oilers fans upset on social media, but after two straight Stanley Cup defeats to the far superior team, it’s not shocking that they hold resentment towards them.

Ultimately, this is what happens in sports, and when one rival has the edge over another, they tend to talk trash, and while McDavid is still the better player, Tkachuk has hoisted the Cup not once, but twice in his career, and that’s an accomplishment that McDavid would give anything to achieve.

Whether or not you believe Tkachuk’s actions are justified, he’s always been this type of player, and when you win two straight Stanley Cups, you simply earn the right to do this type of thing.
