There has been a new age-progressed image released yesterday. The TBI issued an update on their newsroom, and it’s been a long time since they’ve updated this page. As you can see, the Amber Alert is still active:
“Today, we’re releasing a new age-progression image of Summer Wells, who has been missing since June 15th, 2021, and remains the subject of an Amber Alert in the state of Tennessee. The image was created by a forensic artist with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and shows what Summer may look like today. We continue to pursue any and all leads in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND.”
That is the age-progressed image. See—look, two years. That was the previous one they released. Honestly, the one from two years ago was criticized for looking too old. Two years ago, Summer was seven, and the picture looked like a kid maybe nine or ten.
This is the new one. In my opinion, this one looks even less like what I imagine Summer would look like at nine than the previous one. The older one did have a look of Candice—like Candice’s side of the family—whereas this new one, I can’t see either Don, Candice, or Summer in it.
What do you think? Let me know. You might think completely differently.
From what I understand, they take family photos and amalgamate them into a computer model, which then generates an image. But I asked ChatGPT to do it—I asked it to make the photo look like a nine-year-old girl. In my opinion, that looks closer to what Summer might look like than either of the official images. I might be completely wrong—you might have a different opinion.
These age-progressed images are uncertain. In four years, a child can change quite a lot—or hardly at all except to look a bit older. Also, this does not necessarily mean they believe Summer is alive. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children does this for long-term missing kids, even when there is reason to believe they may be deceased—like in the case of Michael Vaughn. A year into that case, police said they believed Michael was dead and buried in someone’s backyard. The suspects remain suspects, but there have been no charges in that case, which is now four years old.
Now, onto the tragic case of 10-year-old Jaden Spicer from Jackson, Kentucky. His mother reported him missing on the 6th of August, saying she woke up that morning and he was nowhere to be seen—claiming he had just wandered off on his own. I knew that wasn’t true once I heard his aunt say he was scared of the dark and didn’t like insects.
This is his mother, Felicia Gross. Lord knows how CPS gave her custody. It angers me beyond belief that CPS keeps failing children. It doesn’t matter what state or country you live in—they keep failing kids. Yes, they do great work for some children, but how do they keep making these mistakes?
I want to know: was it CPS or a judge that decided Jaden should go back to live with his mother? She had already been charged with child endangerment and had drug charges. Jaden had grown up with his grandma or great-grandma, who died in May. Once she died, he lost the one solid thing in his life—the person who had cared for him since he was a baby—and was sent back to his mother.
Whose decision was that? Was it CPS? Was it a judge? I want to know. In Harmony Montgomery’s case, it was a judge who decided she should go live with her dad, Adam, even though she barely knew him—and look what happened. Horrendous.
On August 12th, Felicia Gross confessed to a version of events. We don’t yet know whether it’s true. The toxicology report, now that Jaden’s body has been recovered, will tell all.
She currently faces four charges:
False report to law enforcement
Manslaughter (second degree) — not murder
Tampering with physical evidence
Abuse of a corpse
On August 6th, 2025, Felicia and Josh Gross (her husband) reported Jaden missing. Josh Gross is also questionable—did he know? Could he face charges? Did he help hide the body?
Felicia told police she had given Jaden a type of sleeping medication, which caused him to have a medical emergency. She believed he had passed away as a result. She admitted transporting his body to a wooded area on Canoe Road, near the mouth of Joe Little Fork.
A search warrant was executed, and Jaden’s remains were found buried underground in a plastic tote. He was 10 years old and tall for his age—how did she fit him in a tote? And how did she dig a hole large enough, 90 miles away? I believe she had help.
Yesterday, a vigil was held. His aunts, Samantha Brunty and Chai Sailors, spoke to WKYT. They described the days before finding his body as some of the hardest of their lives. The community’s outpouring of support helped them cope. They also brought Jaden’s cousins and siblings to the vigil to aid their healing.
Family friend Tasha Shepherd, who was there when Jaden was born, said her son and Jaden would have been in the same grade this year. She takes comfort that “he’s back with his mama” and that it gives everyone peace. Jaden’s personality was described as happy, spunky, and very active.
Father Jim is partnering with Soul Shine Industries to make Jaden a customized Spider-Man-themed casket. Breathitt County Schools are asking students and staff to wear blue for Jaden tomorrow and Friday. Another vigil will be held Saturday at 8:30 p.m. in Douthitt Park, Jackson.
So sad. Felicia didn’t want him—or couldn’t cope with him—but there were other options. Again, I want to know who made the decision to send him back to her. It’s time officials were held accountable for these mistakes. Time and time again, tragedies like this happen.
