Guy Sebastian has shared a heartbreaking tribute to two people who lost their lives in the Shellharbour Airport plane crash this weekend.

In a lengthy caption, the 43-year-old revealed his close connection to the two of the victims of the horror accident, which also left a third person dead.

The pop star posted several images on Instagram showing his good friend Andrew Connors, who died alongside his wife, Julieanne, when their aircraft plummeted to the ground and crashed on the tarmac on Saturday.

‘The world lost three wonderful people on Saturday. Two of which I was lucky enough to know and call my friends. Andrew and Jules Connors were the kindest, most generous people you could know,’ Sebastian began.

Sebastian went on to explain his colourful history with the Connors.

‘I met Andrew 15 years ago when he told me I was being ripped off for a building job down the south coast. He did the job for less than a quarter of what I was quoted from other builders. That was the start of a friendship and the first of many acts of integrity and honour that I witnessed from Andrew,’ Sebastian said.

‘He LOVED his family and mates with everything he had. He built shelters for our foundation to help women escaping violence. He was a volunteer pilot for the flying doctors. He was always front and centre at the Convoy and so many other charities.

‘Even down to making sure he donated blood, Andrew and Jules epitomised what it meant to be a shining light in a community.’

The Australian Idol winner said he was ‘absolutely heartbroken’ by the loss.

‘As a friend, he was always checking in and cheering me on. The world is not the same without them. Thinking of the families involved and sending love to the Connors and also Colin’s family,’ Sebastian concluded.

The singer’s wife, Jules, chimed in with her own tribute in the comments below the post, writing: ‘Such a loss. Very good humans.’

Connors and his wife, along with a third passenger, were heading to the Bathurst 1000 when their light aircraft crashed and burst into flames shortly after take-off.

Emergency services rushed to the Shellharbour Airport in NSW‘s Illawarra region after the aircraft plummeted to the ground.

The single-engine Piper Saratoga plane caught fire upon impact and all three people on board were killed, including local builder Connors and his wife Julieanne.

The couple leave behind two children and had operated their local company, Connors Building, for more than three decades.

They have been described by shocked friends and neighbours as a ‘beautiful family’ who were friendly, and generous and fun-loving.

The Connors and family friend Colin McLachlan had just taken off from the airport to take a 38-minute flight to the annual Bathurst 1000 car race in central-west NSW when tragedy struck.

‘When young people die like that it’s very sad, they were very good people,’ a neighbour told the Daily Telegraph.

‘(Andrew) loved flying, it was his hobby.’

Photos from the scene show debris from the destroyed aircraft scattered across the runway.

Lake Illawarra Chief Inspector Aaron Wunderlich said that a ‘gruesome’ scene confronted emergency responders.

‘The plane has taken off on the tarmac and gone about 30 metres into the air. At that point, witnesses (said) the aircraft dipped with its left wing coming down and it contacted the tarmac,’ Inspector Wunderlich said.

‘Unfortunately, the plane was engulfed.

‘The crime scene will be in place for some period of time.’

Firefighters arrived at the scene ‘within minutes’ of the crash but there was nothing they could do.

‘It was a pretty intense fire from what I’ve heard, and there was no chance of surviving that kind of impact,’ Fire and Rescue NSW Inspector Andrew Barber said.

‘It did disintegrate upon impact with the ground. One wing came off completely.’

Among the emergency responders were members of NSW Rural Fire Service, who had been on the tarmac for a training exercise at the time and witnessed the crash.

Locals and motorists feared the worst as soon as they spotted the smoke billowing from the scene.

‘It kept turning and then it was back over the other runway, hit the runway and burst into flames,’ one local told Nine News.

Another added: ‘I was just driving down the highway and a massive plume of smoke came up over the buildings and I knew it was at the runway.’

NSW Police and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) have launched separate investigations.

Shellharbour Airport had been hosting a special event, showing aircraft from the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS), which has a museum at Albion Park.

The crash is not connected to the nearby event.
