Son of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus, Trace Cyrus is the brother of Miley Cyrus and Noah Cyrus.

Trace Cyrus started a pop-rock band, Metro Station, in early 2006 and performed as the guitarist and vocalist.

He had appeared in Miley Cyrus’ 2008 album Breakout, followed by appearing in a music video for Billy Ray Cyrus’ Somebody Said a Prayer.

Trace Cyrus, who comes from a family of musicians, returned to music in 2024 and released a single, Cowgirl Ride, which reportedly marks his shift into a country-leaning sound. Miley Cyrus’ elder brother has been in the news for writing an open letter for his father, which led to fans recalling what Trace said about the family.

Country singer Billy Ray Cyrus took to the stage in celebration of President Donald Trump’s inauguration and sang his hits, including Old Town Road and Achy Breaky Heart. Ray Cyrus faced some technical difficulties while performing, with the singer delivering song lyrics in a shaky, spoken-word tone. His performance was widely panned as a disaster.

Trace Cyrus wrote an open letter to her father stating that they had been concerned about him for years. The younger Cyrus alleged that his father is not healthy, but he is unsure what’s going on with him or what he is struggling with. He also added in his letter that Miley Cyrus and Noah Cyrus have been genuinely worried about him for years. Trace added (via Fox News),

Sadly, the man that I wanted so desperately to be just like, I barely recognize now. It seems this world has beaten you down, and it’s become obvious to everyone but you. You may be upset with me for posting this, but I really couldn’t care less at this point.

Trace also stated that Billy Ray Cyrus had pushed all of the kids and family members away, and they have just been hanging on to the memories of a man they once knew in the hope that he’d return. Elsewhere in the letter, Miley Cyrus’ brother Trace mentioned to Billy Ray Cyrus that he’d love to be of help to him in any case.

And now, Trace has yet again taken to his social media, revealing that his father is now taking legal action against him. He wrote on his IG

Dad, my message was beyond loving. I could have been extremely honest about a lot more, but I don’t want to put your business out there. But for you to threaten me with legal action for wanting you to get help is a disgrace.

The younger Cyrus mentioned that Pappy [Grandfather] would be very disappointed in him and told his dad that he should be ashamed of himself. The singer added that he’ll always love his father, but he no longer respects him as a man with nothing. Everyone close to Billy Ray Cyrus is terrified to tell him how they really feel, but he is not. Trace Cyrus asked his father to get help.

It should be known that Trace Cyrus and Brandi Cyrus were adopted by Billy Ray Cyrus when he married Tish Cyrus in 1992, who had them when she was married to Baxter Neal Helson.

Trace Cyrus’ concerns for his father may have touched a lot of people, but it did not make fans forget the comments he made back in 2023 online about his family. During an Instagram Q&A, the singer was asked, ‘Is it hard being in a family that is in the spotlight?’ To which he said, (via Newsweek)

I love my family so much, but I think I’d be much more successful if I weren’t part of a famous family. People immediately want to judge me and discredit all my hard work because of who I’m related to, but that’s so far from the truth.

He added that he got a record deal without anyone in his label knowing who he was related to till after they signed him. Trace mentioned that he had never used his last name anywhere online for the first few years of his career until people started finding out.

But fans were not happy with the claims the artist made, as one of the users mentioned, ‘We only know you because of your famous family, so there’s that.’. Another user reminded Trace that he has the opportunities because he’s got a famous family.

This has just added to the everlasting rift between the family members, with children picking sides between mother Tish Cyrus, who got married to actor Dominic Purcell in 2023, and father Billy Ray Cyrus.

Reports suggested that the family members want to move past their feud, but after Billy Ray Cyrus allegedly took legal action against Trace Cyrus, we don’t know how long it’s going to take to bury the hatchet and move on. Miley Cyrus has not commented on the situation.
