MasterChef’s Back to Win victor has been announced, and fans aren’t too happy about it. Laura Sharrad took out the title on Tuesday night, beating Callum Hann.

Both from South Australia, Callum and Laura went head-to-head in a two-round cook, which began with an ingredient knockout challenge, and then a pressure test set by pastry chef Michael ‘Miko’ Llamanzares-Aspiras.

Round one saw Callum make a one-bite potato, rosemary, and oyster and receive a total of 38 points, while Laura served a samphire and potato risotto with a smoked pipi broth and also scored 38 points.

For round two, they each had 4.5 hours to recreate Miko’s Botanical Garden, which was an edible bouquet of flowers consisting of 149 steps. Callum was given 35 points, while Laura earned 48 points.

With a total of 80 points, Laura was crowned the winner and was awarded $250,000, with Callum receiving $40,000 as runner-up.

Fans had been predicting all season that Laura would take out the win, even going so far as to accuse the judges of playing favourites with her. Many also suggested that she likely wouldn’t come second in the competition for a third time.

Following her win, Laura wrote on social media: “I never thought I’d ever writing this… When I was 13 years old, I told my mum that one day I would be on MasterChef Australia. 17 years later; I stand here, achieving my lifelong goal, and finally writing the last chapter to my fairytale ending. My heart is full of love, joy and pride.”

She added, “Here’s to never giving up on your dreams.”

However, fans of the show were having none of it, with many saying the show was always “rigged” for her to win.

One particularly angry viewer wrote, “Laura, your MasterChef win was an embarrassment. 75 minutes of just boiling potatoes compared to Callum’s oyster masterpiece, and yet you got the same scores. Let’s be real – you got dragged to the finish line by pure favouritism, not talent.”

“Callum created something that looked like a real oyster so clever,” another said. “Laura’s potato did not look like rice, it was boiled potatoes, degree of difficulty and creativity was way under Callum’s.”

“She won the title with potato cube…” a third said.

“The judges fave from the moment she returned this season,” someone else said. “Absolutely rigged/scripted from the very beginning.”

“What a joke MasterChef is,” yet another wrote. “Michelin star quality dishes versus pasta, potatoes and ants! Callum was robbed!”

While there were a lot of haters, many others congratulated Laura, with one fan writing, “Massive congratulations to you, Laura Sharrad! You were so incredibly deserving of this title! Please do not listen to all the haters out there! You earnt this title whole heartedly. You are truly incredible.”

“The guy who set the last challenge said it all with his judging,” another agreed. “He said Laura’s cake was as good as what his sous chef would do. So she won fair and square on the night.”

“Your win is a testament to Jock [Zonfrillo] for his mentorship and training,” a third wrote. “I feel like it was MC AU’s way of giving thanks to him for all those years. It all comes full circle. Congrats Laura. Enjoy your win and don’t let people make you feel guilty for it.”

“Congratulations sweetheart so deserving!” someone else said. “Loved you since the first time you joined when you were just 19.”
