It’s now confirmed by the Montreal Canadiens for Ivan Demidov.

If there were still any doubts or concerns, well, there you go! It’s now officially confirmed via an official press release.

The Montreal Canadiens organization has just confirmed the signing of forward Ivan Demidov

Here’s an excerpt from the much-anticipated official statement.

“Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Tuesday that the team has agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract (2024-25 to 2026-27) with forward Ivan Demidov.

Demidov appeared in 65 games with St. Petersburg SKA in the KHL this season, registering 19 goals and 30 assists, in addition to serving 22 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-1, 192 lb forward added five points (3G, 2A) in six playoffs contests. Demidov’s 49 points set a new KHL record for the most points in a season by a U20 player (the previous record was 42 points, set by Kirill Kaprizov in 2016-17).”

Please note that the contract officially begins this season, starting in 2024-2025, meaning Demidov is already eligible to join the Canadiens’ lineup.

The official announcement:

We’re obviously talking about a three-year deal.

One year of the contract will be burned, just like with Lane Hutson last season, but I think we can all agree that’s the least of our worries right now.

The plan for Demidov is to have him play in the NHL as early as this season, and the Canadiens confirm that he’s already on his way.

What an incredible day to be a Montreal Canadiens fan.

Details to follow.
