The Block viewers were left baffled watching Monday night’s episode when a completely unplanned — and very dangerous — incident derailed a scene with host Scott Cam and contestants Robby and Mat. And it seems the shocking moment was never meant to make it to screens.

The best mates were fishing with Scotty at the Tuki Trout Farm in Smeaton, Victoria, as part of their reward for winning last week’s room reveal, when they heard a car beeping its horn nearby. Although Robert, the owner of the property, assured them that it was just his two-and-a-half-year-old grandson sitting in a parked car, the vehicle then drove through a bush and crashed into a tree on an embankment.

“We turn around, the car’s running, the wheels are going into this tree,” Mat explained in his piece-to-camera interview. “Robert has walked up to the car, opened the door, turned the key off, pulled out a two-year-old by his hand, and we’re standing there going like, ‘Uh, how is no one talking about this or panicked?’ ”

Tuki Trout Farm owner speaks out

Robert’s wife and Tuki Trout Farm co-owner Jan tells Yahoo Lifestyle their grandson was “unharmed” following the incident; however, she’s “disappointed” the show’s producers aired the scene after promising it wouldn’t be shown on TV.

“It was a little, minor accident, and we did ask them not to show that. They promised not to,” she says. “The child, obviously, is completely unharmed and much loved, so we’re really disappointed that it was shown.”

Yahoo Lifestyle has contacted Channel 9 for comment.

Robby and Mat speak out after bizarre moment

While Scotty laughed off the incident on the show, joking that the young boy would remember that afternoon for the rest of his life, Robby and Mat told Yahoo Lifestyle following the episode that they still can’t believe what happened.

“I was standing there, everyone was dead f**king silent, everyone’s in shock, there’s a kid getting dragged out of a car that’s two-and-a-half years old,” Mat remarked. “A kid just drove a car into a tree. Honestly, [Robert] dragged his kid out, the kid is two-and-a-half years old, and he’s like, ‘You’ll be right mate’.”

Mat said Robert walked the boy into the house, and everyone was asking what was going on, “Where are we? It was like an episode of The Deliverance or something,” he said.

Robby recalled Scotty laughing about the incident, adding: “He was like, ‘You never know what’s going to happen with these two around!’”

Fans left baffled by strange scene

Viewers were just as confused by the incident, with many taking to social media to question what actually happened.

“Why was the key in the car?” one person asked, while another asked, “Why was a child in the car alone with the key?”

“2-year-old steals the car and crashes it — how did he reach the pedals?” another asked.

Robby and Mat teased that, oddly enough, the car crash isn’t the strangest moment this season, as there will soon be a “funeral”.

“We’re gonna have to call the burns unit at the Daylesford hospital, I reckon,” Mat teases. “I’d go a bit further than a funeral. There is a death, there is a murder, there is a communal funeral. There is something going on, but I don’t know what, though.”
