The Montreal Canadiens are never far from the center of NHL trade speculation, but this offseason has taken an especially intriguing turn. As the front office continues shaping the team’s future, rumors and reports are swirling with renewed intensity, leaving fans and analysts alike eagerly awaiting the next big move. With the NHL Draft looming and free agency just around the corner, every decision made by general manager Kent Hughes and head coach Martin St. Louis is under the microscope.
Recent developments have injected a fresh wave of excitement—and perhaps anxiety—into the Canadiens’ offseason narrative. Not only has the team’s willingness to make bold moves been on full display, but the latest whispers suggest that the organization is considering options that could significantly alter the roster’s core. The stakes are high, and the potential implications for the team’s direction are enormous.
As speculation heats up, the spotlight shines even brighter on Montreal’s management. Will they pull the trigger on a blockbuster deal, or will these rumors fade into the background like so many before? One thing is certain: the coming weeks promise to be anything but dull for Canadiens fans, as the franchise stands on the brink of potentially transformative change.

We finally have concrete and very interesting information regarding the Montreal Canadiens and the NHL trade market.
According to the well-known Chris Johnston, the Montreal Canadiens are officially open to trading one of their 2025 first-round picks (either the 16th or 17th overall) along with defenseman Logan Mailloux. Wow.
So, expect Kent Hughes to try to trade Mailloux plus a 2025 first-round pick, possibly in exchange for a second-line center.
Chris Johnston Reports Kent Hughes Is Open to Trading Logan Mailloux and One of His 2025 First-Round Picks
This is bound to make things very interesting.
“Chris Johnston: Montreal Canadiens open to moving one of their 2025 firsts, Logan Mailloux this summer.”
– The Athletic
It feels like the end for Mailloux here.
Logan Mailloux, 22 years old, is a 6-foot-3, 213-pound right-shot defenseman who tallied 33 points in 63 games this season with the Laval Rocket, including 12 goals. He also added 6 points in 11 AHL playoff games so far.
It’ll be very interesting to see what happens next in his case, but don’t be surprised if he follows in the footsteps of Alexander Romanov, especially since he seems to have solid trade value.
It’s not the first time Mailloux’s name has come up in trade rumors, but this time, it seems to be the real deal.
Definitely a story to watch over the next few weeks and after Laval’s playoff run.
