The third room reveals of the season have been unveiled.

Just two weeks after completing their first bathroom on The Block, this year’s contestants were tasked with renovating the main bathroom in each of their houses. Each team was given the exact same layout, timeframe, and suggested budget of $20,000; however, the results were starkly different.

While one team’s bold bathtub decision paid off, others copped criticism from the show’s judges for their bizarre decisions and design choices. Interior designer Chris Carroll, director of TLC Interiors, has also shared his thoughts with Yahoo Lifestyle and revealed which team he thinks was robbed of the win.

House 1 (Emma and Ben)

Emma and Ben received plenty of positive feedback from the judges, who praised their tile choice for being “very Daylesford” but pointed out that the room needed to have overhead lighting. Chris agrees Emma and Ben needed more light over the vanity, given how much dark tile they splashed across the bathroom, but also noticed another flaw that the judges didn’t mention.

“As it stands, the vanity isn’t very functional – not a place you could do your makeup at,” he says. “It’s these small things that will really annoy the future buyer. Function always has to come first, and this week they chose looks over usability.”

House 2 (Han and Can)

The judges loved Han and Can’s “bold and different” see-through resin bathtub and were very impressed by their colour scheme. Chris has the exact opposite opinion, declaring that the girls’ bathroom was “undoubtedly the worst” this week.

“The bathtub and basins are one thing, but the colour combination was dire and the combination of materials didn’t work,” he shares. “The Block likes to punk its viewers sometimes, and the salad bowl bathtub winning this week was a clear example of this. I don’t foresee any viewer at home wanting this, nor does it make sense with the other elements in Han and Can’s bathroom.”

House 3 (Britt and Taz)

They may have won last week’s room reveal, but Britt and Taz copped the most criticism from the judges this week for the shape of their archway and odd shower room, which Marty Fox described as an “upmarket abattoir”. Chris points out that it was even more strange for the shower to have such a large bench seat when there was only one shower head.

“The ‘abattoir’ shower was more of a swingers’ wet room in my eyes. Why so much bench seating? How many people are going to be in there together?” he remarks. “It felt oversized, cold and not at all welcoming.”

House 4 (Sonny and Alicia)

Sonny and Alicia’s risky decision to move the position of their door didn’t pay off in the judges’ eyes, as they said it was “all over the place”. The couple argued that the new layout will make more sense once the main bedroom and walk-in robe are revealed, and Chris agrees it’s not as bad as the judges made it out to be.

“Sonny and Alicia’s door change didn’t bother me, although there was a bit of bare wall there that could have used an artwork,” he says.

House 5 (Robby and Mat)

Robby and Mat, who previously took out the win for their bathroom in week one, were praised for their tile choice, styling, and use of the space. In fact, their bathroom was so good that Chris believes it was a “travesty” that they didn’t win.

“Robby and Mat are proving themselves to be the kings of wet rooms,” he shares. “Their main bathroom not winning this week was a travesty. It was successful in every respect, and I can barely fault it. It had form, function, size and scale all sorted.”

Who won The Block week three?

Ultimately, it was Han and Can who took out the win with a score of 29, thanks to their bonus point gnome, with Emma and Ben once again coming in second place on 28.

Meanwhile, Sonny and Alicia received the $10,000 Commonwealth Bank award for the third week in a row, as their estimate of the cost of their bathroom was the closest to the actual cost. They predicted they would spend $17,760, and they ended up spending $18,146.
