During Jean-Charles Lajoie’s show, TVA Sports journalist Renaud Lavoie had an update on young Ivan Demidov.

Reflecting on Demidov’s most recent full practice, Renaud Lavoie spoke about his role on the power play.

According to him, it’s clear and obvious that, even though Demidov is currently on the second power play unit, Martin St-Louis has other plans for the young sensation.

Martin St-Louis worked with Ivan Demidov on the power play

The Canadiens’ head coach appears to have plans for Demidov.

“I liked it because it allowed Martin St-Louis to work directly with Ivan Demidov. […]”

“St-Louis held a meeting at the end of the power play practice with all his players. […]

The instructions were clear, Martin’s eyes were wide, it was precise, and he spoke to the group with passion.”

Martin made sure to clearly communicate what he wants, particularly regarding positioning and puck movement.

A role change is imminent for Ivan Demidov on the power play

According to what Renaud mentions here, the Canadiens seem to have big plans for Ivan Demidov on the power play.

He will inevitably take on a bigger role soon, whether it’s on the first unit eventually, or as the primary pillar of the second unit.

Martin St-Louis has already begun preparing him for that, which is very encouraging.

Let’s not forget that before “launching” him onto the top power play unit, Demidov must fully understand their system and everything that comes with it.
