Jay Slater’s mother has said “our hearts are broken” after his body was found in Tenerife.
The 19-year-old was identified by his fingerprints after a post-mortem examination, and the injuries suffered are compatible with a fall from a cliff, according to a court spokesperson.
Debbie Duncan, Mr Slater’s mother, said the confirmation of his death was the “worst news”.
She said in a statement: “I just can’t believe this could happen to my beautiful boy. Our hearts are broken.”
Spanish police said on Monday that the Civil Guard’s mountain rescue group had found the “lifeless body of a young man in the Masca area after 29 days of constant search”.
Mr Slater, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire and was reported missing after he set off to walk from the north-west of the island back to his holiday accommodation in the south – a journey of about 11 hours.
The apprentice bricklayer had attended the NRG music festival and travelled to an Airbnb in the rural village of Masca, which was said to have been rented by two British men he met at the event. The men were ruled out as “not relevant” to the case.
At 8.15am on 17 June he had called his friend Lucy Law, telling her he was lost, needed water and only had one per cent of battery life left on his phone.
When his phone cut off, his last location showed he was in Rural de Teno Park, a mountainous area popular with hikers.
His body was discovered in a steep and inaccessible area, according to the Civil Guard, which had previously said he “could have suffered an accidental fall”.

Ms Law paid tribute to him on her Instagram page.
She said: “Honestly lost for words. Always the happiest and most smiley person in the room, you was one of a kind Jay and you’ll be missed more than you know.
“I’m sure you’ll ‘have your dancing shoes polished and ready’ waiting for us all.
“We all love you buddy. Fly high.”
Helicopters, drones and search dogs were deployed to find Mr Slater after he vanished.
The Civil Guard released video footage of rescuers climbing rock faces and battling through scrub as they searched for him.
Part of the clip showed two members of the search team being winched out of the area by helicopter after the body had been found and recovered.
Charity LBT Global had previously said the remains were found with Mr Slater’s clothes and possessions.
