Search and rescue efforts continued for six-year-old Lilly and four-year-old Jack Sullivan Sunday.
Saturday crews covered new ground but search manager Amy Hansen said they didn’t find anything new.
“Yesterday we had a lot of people out in the field and a lot of areas covered and did a big call out to get more out today,” said Hansen.
The search went from around one hundred people on Saturday to one hundred and fifteen volunteers onsite Sunday.
“There’s eleven teams here today,” said Hansen.
“We have Colchester, East Hants, Eastern Shore, Halifax, Musquodoboit Valley, Pictou County, Pugwash, Strait Area, Spring Hill, Valley and West Hants here today,”
Hansen said helicopters are unable to fly in the bad weather but there were drones in the air through the weekend.
“It’s the boots on the ground that are going to be the resources that resolve this situation,” she said.
Police scaled back search efforts and said there was little chance the siblings were still alive on May 7, five days after the children were reported missing in Lansdowne Station, N.S. Search efforts renewed Saturday and restored hope for the children’s stepfather, Daniel Martell.
“I never gave up hope since day one and I want to see them brought home, that’s the main objective here,” said Martell.
Hansen said crews are in good spirits despite the prolonged search.
“We just want to find these children and bring them home,” she said.
Crews were fighting bugs while they trekked through dense forests and swampy terrain before Sunday brought rain. Plans for the search after Sunday are undetermined.
“If we suspend our search on the ground, it’s up to the RCMP through their investigation if they want to bring us back in at a future date,” said Hansen.
RCMP declined to comment on the search or the case on Sunday.
“It’s just pure exhaustion at this point,” said Martell. “Sadness just turns to anger at this point because there are no answers. I mean I don’t know if we are going to ever get answers. I mean I hope everyday but the hope just turns into anger because there is nothing.”
