A beloved voice from Melbourne’s most popular breakfast radio shows has announced their departure, leaving fans stunned.
Melbourne radio star Jack Post has revealed he’s “calling time” on his run with Gold 104.3’s The Christian O’Connell Show after seven years on air.
The 37-year-old made the emotional announcement on Monday morning, breaking the news live to listeners of the top-rating breakfast program.
“I leave with nothing but gratitude and so much love for you guys, and for the show,” Post said on air.

“It really has been an amazing period of my life and in some ways surreal to say goodbye.
“But I can’t tell you how much it means that you guys have been supportive, accepting, and understanding of this decision. I’m going to miss so much.”
While admitting he’s “scared and terrified” because he doesn’t have another job lined up, Post said he’s also filled with “excitement and joy”.
“It’s really hard to explain to people. My parents didn’t understand it when I told them, and many people who I’ve told over the last couple of days have been surprised,” he admitted.
“Sometimes I feel like I’m running a marathon and I’m just at what the end I can give and run for this show, even though I love it so much.”
Host Christian O’Connell replied knowingly: “The toothpaste has been squeezed dry.”
Post laughed, responding: “I’ve squeezed it out.”
O’Connell paid tribute to his long-time co-host, saying he and fellow presenter Patrina Jones would miss Post “immensely”.
“A big, big part of my life over the last seven years,” O’Connell said.
“But I still hope that one day our paths cross and we end up working together in some form.”

The young father later shared a personal statement on social media, calling the move “one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make in my life”.
“I love this show deeply, and it has given me so much,” he wrote.
“But there is something in my gut telling me it’s time to close this chapter and write the next one.”
Post also reflected on his time with his former radio co-hosts Hamish & Andy, saying when he left their show in 2017, he didn’t know what came next but he felt the same excitement then that he feels now.
“I’m so happy it turned out to be The Christian O’Connell Show,” he said.
“It’s time to step away again, make space, and see what’s next.”
Although the Gold 104.3 team supported Post’s decision, the was timing awkward given The Christian O’Connell Show clinched the top position in Melbourne’s fiercely competitive FM breakfast ratings just weeks ago.
According to the first GfK survey of 2025, the Gold FM breakfast team rose by 2.8 points to claim an 11.5 per cent market share.
At the time, British-born O’Connell praised his tight-knit team and loyal listeners.
“We haven’t had mega marketing money and done big noisy cash giveaways, this is about making a show with our audience with our hearts that I hope matters,” he said.
“We are in scary times, and we need all the help we can get. I hope my show is a beacon of joy.”
