After news emerged of OJ Simpson ‘s death on Thursday, a clip of Kim Kardashian speaking about the impact he had on her family has resurfaced.

OJ was famously acquitted for the murder of his wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman in 1994. Part of his jam-packed team of lawyers was Robert Kardashian, the father of Khloe, Kim, Kourtney and Rob Kardashian.

The former football star was a close friend of the family up until the murders. Kris Jenner, Robert’s then-ex-wife, considered Nicole one of her closest friends and strongly believed that OJ was the one who murdered her.

Kim was interviewed by David Letterman on his Netflix show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction. David asked her about her family’s connection to OJ.

The reality star told a story of when OJ called her house asking to speak to Kris. “It was dinnertime and we were all sitting down. And I answered the phone and it was a call from jail and it was OJ and I handed my mum the phone ’cause he wanted to speak to her and I just remember them getting into it,” she explained.

“My mum was extremely vocal on her feelings,” Kim said, and when David asked her to clarify, she said: “She believed that her friend was murdered by him and that was really traumatising for her.”

She then explained how with her father, it was a different story. “Then we’d go to my dad’s house and it was a whole other situation there,” Kim said. “So we didn’t really know what to believe or whose side to take as kids ’cause we didn’t want to hurt one of our parents’ feelings.”

The SKIMS founder added that Robert took her and Kourtney out of school one day to go to the trial and didn’t tell Kris. “My mum was sitting with Nicole’s parents and Kourtney and I were sitting right behind OJ,” she remembered. “And we look over at my mum and she’s giving us this death stare.”

“It kind of tore our family apart, I’d say, for the whole time of the trial,” she admitted.

Kim also said in the interview that her and her siblings grew up calling the acquitted star “Uncle OJ” and had gone on a family vacation with his family in Mexico just weeks before the murders.
