The well-known case of the impending trade involving Montreal Canadiens forward Jake Evans continues to generate a lot of buzz, and not just here.
Earlier today, insider Frank Seravalli, who has numerous sources within the National Hockey League, addressed this situation and even put forward a concrete trade proposal involving the Montreal Canadiens and.. the Toronto Maple Leafs.
A concrete trade proposal between Montreal and Toronto involving Jake Evans
Here is the trade he suggested:
To Toronto:
Jake Evans
To Montreal:
Panthers’ 2025 second-round pick, Roni Hirvonen
And here is part of his explanation:
“It seems strange to see a trade between the Leafs and Canadiens, but not too long ago, Montreal sent another third-line center to Toronto (Tomas Plekanec) at the 2018 trade deadline.
From the Canadiens’ perspective, if Evans isn’t coming back, they’ll want to maximize value. They had a mid-second-round pick on the table for Evans at last June’s draft; this isn’t that, given that it’s Florida’s pick, but maybe a prospect (another Finnish forward who was a second-round pick in 2020) will be enough.”
“It doesn’t sound the Canadiens are on a path to getting an extension done with Evans, who is now more likely to move than not”
– Frank Seravalli
Given that contract extension discussions between Jake Evans’ camp and the Montreal Canadiens are not going particularly well, a trade seems even more likely.
What is your opinion on the trade proposed here by Frank Seravalli, involving Evans, a second-round pick, and Roni Hirvonen?
Jake, who was born in Toronto, would probably not mind playing for his hometown team and even signing an extension there.
“He has played in three Stanley Cup Final games, so he won’t be overwhelmed by the moment. Plus, he’s a Toronto kid, so there is definite re-signing potential that makes this late second-round pick a worthy expedition.”
– Frank Seravalli
Hirvonen, 23 years old, 5 feet 10 inches, and 178 pounds, was indeed a second-round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2020.
He has recorded 28 points over the past two seasons in the American Hockey League, following a strong stint in Finland’s top league.
