We witnessed a historic moment today during the game between the Washington Capitals and the New York Islanders.

I’m sure you’re already well aware, but earlier today, the great Alex Ovechkin scored his 895th career goal in the National Hockey League, breaking the record of 894 that had been held until today by Wayne Gretzky.

It’s a clip we’re going to see, and see again, and again.

However, there’s one detail that gave some internet users a good laugh, involving the celebration following Ovechkin’s goal, and it’s clearly seen thanks to a fantastic video captured by Anthony Martineau (TVA Sports).

Martin Fehervary takes the time to properly put on his helmet, visibly to avoid a sanction from Gary Bettman and the NHL

While all the Capitals players quickly rushed onto the ice to celebrate the goal with their captain, one of them stayed on the bench for a moment and took his sweet time.

See for yourself, right here:

Martin Fehervary was caught at a very bad moment, as Alex Ovechkin scored his historic goal while the defenseman didn’t have his helmet with him on the bench.

Before jumping onto the ice, he took the time to grab a helmet and put it on.

It gave us a good laugh, and many fans online found it hilarious as well.

Fehervary, 25 years old, is a young left-handed defenseman who played all 77 games for the Washington Capitals this season.

He has 25 points and 25 penalty minutes, with a positive plus-minus of +18.

We’re talking about the 46th overall pick by the Caps in 2018, a second-round pick, and he’s showing great progress.

What a moment, no matter how you look at it!
