After the first room reveal on The Block, viewers have a lot to say about the judging.

The Block viewers were excited for the first week of room reveals on Sunday night, after a week that saw some houses being forced to take down some or all of their tiles due to the tilers using the wrong glue. However, the excitement quickly faded after hearing some of the judges’ comments and scores for certain rooms.

Emma and Ben in House 1 were praised for their choice of texture and colour palette; however, judges Shaynna Blaze, Darren Palmer and Marty Fox criticised the couple for the curved wall that separated the wet areas from the other half of the room. Marty described it as “rough” and “not a ten out of ten”.

The Block fans, however, loved the room, with many left angry that Marty only scored them one point above Han and Can, who didn’t even finish the room on time.

“I liked this bathroom most,” one person wrote, while another added, “Best bathroom! Should have scored higher!”

“This was the nicest bathroom,” a third said. “The rest all looked the same.”

“Loved this room,” someone else said. “How it only scored about one point more than an unfinished room that was heavily criticised is beyond me. Another year of watching ridiculous scoring.”

“Bit confused as to what the judges are actually basing their scores on,” another said. “Specifically, how does Marty give House 1’s bathroom (a finished room with some issues) a 7.5, but give House 2’s (far from finished) a 6.5. The other judges weren’t far off this too.”

“The judging is horribly inconsistent and does not seem to be based on any criteria. Possibly rigged too,” one person suggested.

“They base it off vibes and scripting. Mostly scripting,” another claimed.

“Emma and Ben definitely should have won this week!” one viewer said.

“Their point scoring system makes ZERO sense,” yet another added.

“That was hilarious – it is only Week One and the weird inconsistencies are already on full display,” someone else wrote. “I mean, is someone going to pass on a house because of the metal finish on the taps? Just pure judging insanity as always.”
