This NHL offseason has been nothing short of electrifying for Montreal Canadiens fans, with the team making headlines thanks to a series of bold moves by general manager Kent Hughes. Among the most talked-about acquisitions is defenseman Noah Dobson, whose decision to join the Habs has sent shockwaves through the league and sparked heated debates among insiders.
While rumors swirled for weeks about Dobson’s future, it’s now confirmed that the talented blueliner turned down a more lucrative offer from a rival club, choosing instead to don the iconic Canadiens sweater.
This move not only underscores Montreal’s growing appeal as a destination for top talent but also highlights Dobson’s genuine desire to be part of the organization’s promising future. As details emerge about the deal that brought Dobson to Montreal, excitement is building around what his presence will mean for the team’s blue line and long-term ambitions.

Some stories continue to stir up discussion among major NHL insiders like Elliotte Friedman-and once again, the Montreal Canadiens are involved.
It’s fair to say that Kent Hughes has stolen the spotlight so far this summer, especially with the acquisitions of Noah Dobson and Zachary Bolduc.
Regarding the acquisition of defenseman Dobson, Friedman confirmed a rumor that had been circulating for some time: the former New York Islanders defenseman left money on the table in order to join the Montreal Canadiens.
The Columbus Blue Jackets submitted a better offer than the Montreal Canadiens to acquire and sign Noah Dobson
We love it! He truly wanted to play for the Habs.
Elliotte Friedman: “The Blue Jackets made a big run at Noah Dobson; Columbus offered more money than Montreal.”

This confirms what we already suspected-Dobson is a member of the Montreal Canadiens because he genuinely wanted to be.
He could have made more money elsewhere, but he chose the Habs.
In the end, he cost Montreal their 16th and 17th overall picks in the 2025 NHL Draft plus Emil Heineman. He then signed a contract extension valid through 2033, paying him $9.5 million per year.
Considering that the NHL salary cap is expected to exceed $110 million fairly soon, this deal could turn into another brilliant contract for Kent Hughes.
Dobson, 25, is a 6-foot-4, 200-pound right-handed defenseman who tallied 39 points in 71 games this season, 70 points in 79 games in 2023-24, and 49 and 51 points in the two prior seasons.
We can’t wait to see him in action!
