The winds of change are swirling in Dallas after yet another heartbreaking playoff exit, and one of the NHL’s brightest stars could soon find himself at the center of a blockbuster trade. With mounting salary cap pressures and a roster in need of retooling, the Dallas Stars are reportedly considering major moves—and the name generating the most buzz is Jason Robertson.

The dynamic winger, known for his electrifying offense and back-to-back 80-point seasons, has become the subject of intense speculation following insider Darren Dreger’s recent comments. As the Montreal Canadiens emerge as a serious contender in the Robertson sweepstakes, the hockey world is watching closely to see if Kent Hughes can leverage Montreal’s impressive draft capital and prospect pool to make a franchise-altering deal.

With other teams like the Boston Bruins also in the mix, the stakes have never been higher, setting the stage for a dramatic offseason storyline that could reshape the landscape of the NHL.

After a third consecutive elimination in the Conference Final, changes may be necessary for the Dallas Stars.

In fact, changes will be necessary, because their salary cap situation will basically force them to make moves.

As reported by multiple sources, forward Jason Robertson’s name could very well end up on the trade market in the coming weeks-and the Montreal Canadiens might be involved.

At least that’s what insider Darren Dreger suggested during his appearance on TSN 690’s special Stanley Cup Final broadcast.

According to Dreger, Robertson’s status as a pending unrestricted free agent in two years could catch the attention of Kent Hughes, who is actively seeking a high-end top-6 forward.

Robertson is a top-tier player who put up 109 points two seasons ago and has just recorded back-to-back 80-point campaigns.

However, it’s safe to assume Stars GM Jim Nill wouldn’t let him go for cheap-but we know the Canadiens front office has some interesting assets to pull off a major trade.

The Canadiens hold the 16th and 17th overall picks in the upcoming draft, and a player like Logan Mailloux could be a very attractive piece for the Texas organization, which is looking to bolster its right side on defense.

That said, Montreal isn’t the only team interested in Jason Robertson.

The Boston Bruins are also reportedly keeping an eye on the 25-year-old American forward.

This will definitely be a fascinating situation to watch unfold this summer, but according to Dreger, the Canadiens are one of the few NHL teams with the necessary assets to pull off a potential trade with the Stars involving Robertson.
