As the 2025 NHL offseason unfolds, few names have generated as much buzz and speculation as Sidney Crosby. The legendary Pittsburgh Penguins captain, long considered the heart and soul of the franchise, has found himself at the center of swirling trade rumors that have captivated fans and insiders alike.
With the Penguins facing a potential rebuild and Crosby still performing at an elite level, the hockey world is left wondering if a seismic shift could be on the horizon. Whispers of possible destinations have intensified, with powerhouse teams like the Colorado Avalanche, Montreal Canadiens, and Toronto Maple Leafs all reportedly in the mix. While Crosby’s camp has been quick to temper the frenzy, the mere possibility of a blockbuster trade has sent shockwaves throughout the league. As the speculation continues to build, the question remains: could we truly be witnessing the end of an era in Pittsburgh and the beginning of a new chapter for one of hockey’s greatest icons?

The name Sidney Crosby was heavily circulating this weekend, live from Los Angeles during the 2025 NHL Draft.

Some people genuinely believed Crosby was going to be traded during draft weekend, but his agent quickly stepped in to calm the excitement of those who may have gotten ahead of themselves.

I never really bought into it, but now the excellent Maxime Truman has added fuel to the fire.

“I’m hearing that Crosby is still not certain he wants to be traded, but if it does happen, it could still take a few days or weeks. There’s no rush.

The Colorado Avalanche is said to be the team with the best chance of acquiring Crosby, I’m told.”

He also believes a trade involving Sidney Crosby isn’t happening anytime soon, but the end of his message is particularly interesting.

The team with the best chance of acquiring Sidney Crosby is the Colorado Avalanche

That’s intriguing.

It lines up with rumors that have been floating around for quite some time.

It truly seems to be between the Montreal Canadiens, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Colorado Avalanche-where Crosby would reunite with a certain Nathan MacKinnon.

At 37 years old, Sidney Crosby tallied 91 points in 80 games this season, including 33 goals. He recorded 94 and 93 points in the two previous seasons as well-so yes, he’s still an extremely dominant player.

With the Pittsburgh Penguins heading toward a lengthy rebuild, it’ll be up to him to make a big decision about his future.

Is he ready to say goodbye to the playoffs for the rest of his career?

That’s the big question.

More details to come.
