We have an interesting personnel move to announce within the Montreal Canadiens organization.

The AHL affiliate, the Laval Rocket, has just announced the signing of Canadiens prospect Owen Protz.

Protz is a character player, a tough, physical presence, and a true enforcer.

I have a feeling that fans of both the Montreal Canadiens and the Laval Rocket are going to absolutely love him!

Signing Alert: Owen Protz Signs With the Laval Rocket and Joins the Canadiens Organization

See the official confirmation:

It’s currently an amateur tryout contract, but rest assured, this will likely turn into a standard deal very quickly.

According to many, Protz could eventually replace what Arber Xhekaj brings to the Montreal Canadiens lineup, but let’s wait and see.

“The Laval Rocket have signed Habs prospect Owen Protz to an amateur tryout contract.

The 6 foot 2, 207 lbs, 19 year old physical defenseman was a 4th round pick last year by MTL.

He scored 5G and 27A for 32P in 67GP this season for the Brantford Bulldogs.

Last year, Elite Prospects called him the most violent player on the ice at any given time.”

Protz was indeed the 102nd overall pick by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2024 draft, and he has truly increased his value this season.

He’s a left-handed defenseman consistently feared by opponents.
