Almost two months after appearing on this year’s season of Married At First Sight, Dave Thomas Hand has announced that he has followed in his co-stars’ footsteps and signed with a talent management company. The fan favourite groom is now represented by ASM, which represents some of Australia’s leading talent, including Brittany Hockley.

While it’s typical for reality TV participants to sign with a talent agency to help obtain brand deals and potentially gain more media opportunities, Dave is hoping to take on a rather unexpected career path. The 36-year-old builder, who has his own caulking business, Silicone Valley Caulking, plans to become a keynote speaker.

“Dave is taking strides to move beyond the MAFS brand, establishing himself as an emerging media personality, keynote speaker and content creator,” ASM wrote alongside the social media announcement on Friday.

After the post received comments from fans questioning what he would be speaking about, Dave tells Yahoo Lifestyle he is keen to discuss mental health following his stint on MAFS.

“I’m very excited to be taking this next step. We have a bunch of fun projects planned for the future, and I very much look forward to what this next chapter might be,” he shares.

“I’m an open book and am up for anything, but going on MAFS made me even more eager to promote mental health, so I’m sure that will be something me and my team will focus on when branching out for keynote speaker opportunities.”

This comes shortly after Dave announced that he will be making an appearance on the upcoming season of The Block, which is currently filming in Daylesford, Victoria. He posted a photo of himself last month with The Block’s Foreman Dan Reilly and tiler Adrian Cursio alongside the caption: “The block heads #crossover”

Although some fans speculated that Dave would be appearing as a contestant on the renovation series, he told Yahoo Lifestyle he only made a brief appearance as a tradesman.

“Pretty cool to get a photo with Dan to be honest, I’ve watched him for years,” he remarked. “I’m just there working and helping out some friends. Can’t say too much, but it was super fun. I’m just a tradesman working like all the other boys on site.”

Dave went on to say that he would love to compete on The Block one day alongside his MAFS co-star Billy Belcher, but he’s “not holding [his] breath”.

“I have other goals I’m currently focused on,” he shared, adding, “Dave and Billy on The Block does sound pretty cool though”.
