We have a trade to announce involving the Montreal Canadiens and the San Jose Sharks.

We had been talking about it since the beginning of the week, saying it was only a matter of days, and now it’s official!

Carey Price has been traded by the Montreal Canadiens.

He is heading to the San Jose Sharks.

Here is an excerpt from the official press release issued by the Montreal Canadiens.

“The Canadiens acquire defenseman Gannon Laroque from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for goaltender Carey Price and a fifth-round pick in 2026.”

– Montreal Canadiens

Laroque, 22 years old, is a right-handed defenseman, 6-foot-2 and 201 pounds, who was a fourth-round pick of the Sharks in 2021.

He has played 12 games in the AHL, recording three points with the Sharks’ affiliate team.

Trading Price’s contract frees up just over $4.56M in cap space for Hughes and the Canadiens, while the Sharks now sit with more than $9.2M available.

Shoutout to San Jose journalist Sheng Peng, who pretty much nailed it with his trade proposal.

At first glance, this seems to be an excellent trade for Kent Hughes and the Canadiens.

Details to follow.
