The Montreal Canadiens are wasting no time in shaping their future following the excitement of the 2025 NHL Draft. With a keen eye for emerging talent, the organization has already made a notable move by inviting Simon Lavigne, a promising defenseman from Blainville, Quebec, to their upcoming development camp.

Lavigne’s invitation marks the first official post-draft action by Kent Hughes and his staff, signaling the start of a new wave of opportunities for young players eager to make their mark. As anticipation builds for the development camp, fans and analysts alike are eager to see how Lavigne and the latest crop of Canadiens prospects will perform, hoping to catch a glimpse of the next breakout star in Montreal’s storied hockey tradition.

Unless we’re mistaken, this is the first official invite extended by Kent Hughes following the 2025 draft.

We’d like to congratulate him and are genuinely happy for him!

We’re also really looking forward to this 2025 Montreal Canadiens development camp to see some of the new faces in action.

Most of the players drafted yesterday by the Habs are expected to attend!

Simon Lavigne, age 24, is a 6-foot-3, 188-pound left-handed defenseman from Blainville, Quebec.

He played four seasons with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in the QMJHL, where he notably recorded 36 points in 65 games during the 2021-22 season.

Lavigne also played 22 games with the Rapid City Rush in the ECHL, tallying 12 points, including four goals.

Since 2023, he has played with Concordia University. This season, he put up 22 points in 24 games and now seems ready to take a shot at joining an NHL organization.

He could be a name to watch for the Laval Rocket and/or the reigning ECHL champions, the Trois-Rivières Lions.

More details to come.
