From Gordon Ramsey and Jamie Oliver to Nigella Lawson and Heston Blumenthal, MasterChef Australia has featured some iconic guest judges over the years. In addition to professional chefs, there have also been some huge celebrities on the show such as Katy Perry, King Charles and the Dalai Lama.
Monday night’s episode of the reality show saw three of the most unexpected guest judges entering the kitchen, with comedy troupe Sooshi Mango tasked with tasting the contestants’ dishes. The trio, made up of brothers Joe and Carlo Salanitri and their friend Andrew Manfre, are best known for their viral skits poking fun at their experiences growing up in an Italian family.
In addition to hosting a podcast and posting videos to their combined social media following of 4.3 million people, Sooshi Mango also launched Johnny, Vince & Sam’s Ristorante in Melbourne in 2023.
The MasterChef judges welcomed Sooshi Mango on the show to kick off ‘Viral Week’, and the contestants were given a Mystery Box challenge where they had to make their version of an Italian dish. The comedians, who were dressed up as their famous nonna characters, watched them cook in another room before joining the judges to taste the dishes.

‘Worst episode of the season’
The episode received quite a mixed reaction on social media, with some viewers admitting they found it “awkward”, “embarrassing” and “hard to watch”.
“Are they considered funny in Australia? Men in women’s clothing talking silly feels really old,” one person wrote. “Worst episode of the season.”
“I NEVER fast forward through MasterChef AU, and I fast-forwarded through 90% of this. It was horrible and cringeworthy. Don’t do this again. It wasn’t funny,” another remarked, while a third said, “I had to turn it off lol. I’m just going to watch tomorrow’s like this episode never happened”.
“I am relieved I’m not the only one who thinks so. Worst episode of the entire show, ever,” someone else declared, followed by a different user who said, “Glad to see that I’m not the only one sharing the sentiment.”
Others praise ‘hilarious’ episode
Meanwhile, others praised the “hilarious” episode and went so far as to say it was the “best episode” they’ve ever seen.
“I loved this episode, those guys are so funny,” one fan said, with another adding, “Absolutely loved tonight’s show”.
“This will be, now and forever, the best episode ever made,” someone else declared, while a fourth remarked, “I am obsessed with this episode”.
“This was the first time I’ve watched MasterChef, only because of the beautiful nonnas, they are the best! Big hearts and big laughs!” a different user shared.
“They’re hilarious and the humour is probably lost on the many people here who aren’t Italian Australian, or even Australian at all lol,” another commented.
