Nicole Kidman has officially filed for divorce one day after news of her split from husband Keith Urban went public. The pair have been married for 19 years and share two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.

Nicole has petitioned a Nashville court to end the marriage, stating that the relationship “suffered irreconcilable differences”. Online court records indicate that a parenting plan and a child support worksheet were included, according to USA Today.

“It is anticipated that the parties will enter into a Marital Dissolution Agreement and an Agreed Permanent Parenting Plan that will be submitted to the Court for approval,” the filing states.

The Babygirl actress asked the court to name her the “primary residential parent of the minor children.”

The children will spend the majority of their time with Nicole (approximately 309 days of the year), with the remaining time with their father.

All major decisions regarding the girls will be made jointly by Nicole and Keith.

The filing makes it clear that the Aussie stars have been living in two separate homes in Nashville.

It comes after an insider told People that the pair was “moving in different directions” and that “it felt like the writing was on the wall”.

“It really hasn’t been a secret in their circles that Keith and Nicole have been living separately for a while now,” they said.

“People close to Keith felt like the split was kind of inevitable.”

They add that Nicole’s sister has become her “rock” during this time and that the Kidman family has come together to support the star.

$17m prenup detail that could see Keith walk away with millions in divorce

It comes following reports from Radar Online that Keith signed an agreement with Nicole before their wedding that awards him $900,000 for every year of the marriage.

The contract comes with a ‘cocaine clause’, however, which states the country singer would only be eligible for the money if he didn’t consume drugs and alcohol during the marriage.

This would equate to a little over $17 million after 19 years of marriage.

Throughout their relationship, Nicole and Keith amassed a property portfolio reportedly worth $282 million.

Keith previously revealed in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that Nicole had staged an intervention in the months leading up to their wedding.

“She made a decision to turn around and initiate, ultimately, this intervention,” he said.

“It was done in such a way that the love in that room at that moment was just right. I was like, ‘Put the cuffs on, let’s go.’”

At the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala last year, while honouring Nicole, Keith spoke about their marriage and how his addiction almost broke them.

“We got married in 2006, and barely four months into our marriage, the addictions that I had done really nothing about blew our marriage to smithereens.”

“Four months into a marriage, and I’m in rehab for three months with no idea what was going to happen to us.

“Nic pushed through every negative voice – I’m sure even some of her own – and she chose love.

“And here we are tonight 18 years later. Her capacity to love is like no one I’ve ever met.”

The pair was last photographed together on June 20 of this year at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 in Nashville, Tennessee.

The pair is known for their PDA on red carpets, but kept this appearance relatively tame, though it appeared they were very much in love, holding hands and keeping each other close.

One source said at the time, “Keith has acquired his own residence in Nashville and has moved out of their family home.”

Nicole and Keith married nearly a year after meeting on June 25, 2006, in Sydney’s northern beaches.
