They’re the Adelaide besties bringing the laughs (and top secret wine cellar) to The Block, but Robby and Mat let the tears flow while reflecting on their friendship.

It all began when Robby received a video from his partner Alyssa of his son Brooks saying his first word: ‘dad’.

“It would’ve been great to see that,” he said through tears, admitting that not seeing his son was “so hard”.

Asked how Mat supported his friend through these emotional moments, Mat opened up about how well they have been there for each other for years.

“It’s just being there rather than words, you know what I mean?” Mat responded, also getting teary.

“I’ve had some really shocking health through my life. I had half my lung removed years ago and Rob was in the waiting room when I woke up from my surgery,” he continued.

“And then about six years ago I had my spine rebuilt, and Rob was there in the waiting room when I came out of surgery again.”
Robby and Mat have been best mates for 15 years. (Nine)
He said they were there for each other “better than a lot of relationships”.

“It’s just about being there and being available and being just a good loyal, honest person.”

Robby agreed with everything his mate had said.

“Yes, we miss our family, yes, I miss Brooks and my partner and you miss your family, but you know, Mat and I are a family.

“We’re two best mates, we’re always by each other’s side. We’ve been through some s–t, we’ve had a lot fun and we’ll continue to do that.”
