We have new information regarding veteran Montreal Canadiens defenseman David Savard.

As you know, on Wednesday night, the Canadiens played their final game of the regular season, and that game may have been a bit more special for one particular player on the team.. David Savard!

It’s not breaking news, but for several months now, there have been rumblings that this season would be Savard’s last in the NHL.

David Savard on the verge of announcing his NHL retirement

All signs point to Wednesday night being David Savard’s final regular season game.

Savard, who just completed his 14th NHL regular season, does not have a contract for next season. Several signs are pointing to the end of the road for Savard.

“I don’t think David Savard would’ve had a hat like that made to highlight his 14-season career.. if he wasn’t planning to retire this summer.

That, plus the presence of his family on the bench before last night’s game = retirement for David Savard.”

And that’s not all.. Journalists like Renaud Lavoie have been talking about it for a while now, and this definitely adds fuel to the fire.

Even if Savard does announce his retirement at the end of this season, he could still stay around the team “a-la Paul Byron,” in some sort of role.

Savard, 34 years old, recorded 15 points in 75 games this season, with 36 penalty minutes and a minus-8 rating.

He continues to lead the league in blocked shots.

In his NHL career, Savard has tallied 242 points in 870 games (including 54 goals), with 467 penalty minutes.

He also has 57 games of playoff experience and a Stanley Cup.

More details to come.
