She’s given her first interview.
Despite their happy ending, Farmer Wants A Wife contestant Clarette Goodhead and her partner Farmer Thomas Freeth are speaking out about how the series manipulated their love story.
The 35-year-old teacher has been relatively silent on social media since Farmer Wants A Wife began a few months ago. However, with the FWAW finale and reunion all over, Clarette wants to clear her name.
Chattr confirmed in an interview with fellow FWAW contestant Chelsea Jury earlier this week that Clarette’s edit on the air was not, well, reality. Chelsea told us, “I became quite close with Clarette from the start of the show, and I straight away knew the person she was,” she said. “After getting to know Clarette and then watching how they portrayed her, I couldn’t believe what I was watching.”
“The way they portrayed her was nothing like she really was. Thomas and Clarette had a strong connection from the start, which only progressed as time went on. The hate that they received from viewers was heartbreaking to see because the viewers didn’t get to see anything that went on behind the scenes,” Chelsea explained.

What do Clarette and Farmer Thomas have to say post-FWAW?
This bad faith editing has since been confirmed by Clarette and Thomas themselves. Not only did she write a blog post about it, but in a recent interview with Yahoo Lifestyle the couple asserted that they were victims of “crazy” editing.
“There was one example where they asked me a question, ‘What have you come on here for?’, and I said, ‘I’ve come on here for love. I’m not here just to make friends. Obviously, that’s an amazing byproduct of the experience, but not my priority’,” she said. “They just cut it to say, ‘I’m not here to make friends’.”
Farmer Thomas said his interviews on Farmer Wants A Wife were manipulated, too. In the same interview, he revealed that things he said to one contestant were made to seem like they were said to someone else.
“There was one question they asked me, ‘How did you feel after your last relationship ended?’, and I said, ‘That’s probably the worst I’ve ever felt’. And I saw they used that when Claire left, they used that snippet,” he explained. “I wish they had to show the actual question they asked with the response I gave.”
Despite their villain edit and the ensuing backlash, however, the couple say they are all the stronger for it. They currently live together in South Australia. “We’ve always said, if we can get through all of this, we can hopefully get through anything,” Clarette said. “It’s really tested us, but I feel like we’re pretty much unbreakable now, and we got what we wanted from it. Watch this space, we’re excited for our future together!”
It seems a bad Farmer Wants A Wife edit is no match for the real thing. In her interview with Chattr, Chelsea teased potential wedding bells for the couple. “I definitely think a proposal could happen in the near future, but I think they are just happy living their lives for now.”
We wish Thomas and Clarette many happy returns, villain edits be damned.
