“It’s quite normal for us to go to war with each other.”

Sonny and Alicia came to blows during The Block episode 21 after Alicia returned to their bathroom renovation, and the towel rack was placed too high, and the married couple told Chattr why the fight escalated.

ICYMI, Alicia spent the day shopping for furnishings before returning to The Block site and finding that Sonny had hung one of their bathroom racks extremely high. Alicia told Sonny it would have to be lowered, and the couple continued to fight during the episode.

Alicia told Chattr that it was weird watching back the fight on TV, but said she was very upset at the time, and wouldn’t do anything differently in retrospect.

“I am who I am. I live in the moment. If that’s how I react, you know, I’ll say sorry if I think I’ve overreacted. But, I don’t ever do anything maliciously. I just am who I am,” she told Chattr.

Toward the end of the episode, viewers saw Alicia and Sonny’s fight continue, but this time, their builder, Brodie, was dragged in.

“[Alicia] was upset at me and I deflected a bit,” Sonny explained. “I sort of said, don’t speak to Brodie [like that]. He was our builder and I made her look like a bitch, I suppose, rather than [that she was] just being a bitch to me.”

“I’d never even spoken to our builder [about it], I was always communicating with Sonny,” Alicia added. “And then he tried to push it onto our builder, which upset me, because I absolutely love our builder, and he works so hard for us.”

Alicia and Sonny assured that their relationship with their builder wasn’t affected by the fight, and said he even messaged them last night about the scene.

“It’s funny because he texted me last night laughing. He’s like, Oh, I just love you guys so much. I’d never do the Block with anyone else,” Alicia said. “He wanted to make sure that I was okay.”

Did Sonny and Alicia resolve their towel rack fight?

After fourteen years together — ten of them married — Sonny and Alicia have learned a thing or two about resolving their disagreements, and the towel rack fight was no exception.

“Sonny apologised,” Alicia said. “Sonny’s a quick apologiser, whereas I just need time just to simmer and just chill out a bit, but yeah, we apologised and moved on.”

Despite being together for so long, Sonny said that he and Alicia have learnt things about each other on The Block that they’ll implement into their relationship moving forward.

“I think we’re pretty aware of each other’s strengths and weaknesses, but I think that we learned how to deal with conflicts, resolutions got quicker, and so we’ll probably bring that back into our normal life a bit.

“Just get over things a bit quicker, because you have to on The Block here, you have to make it a decision, which will have something to do with that room within, sometimes, five minutes of an argument. So you need to be on the same playing field and have each other’s backs.

“It’s quite normal for us to go to war with each other. We’re both very stubborn people.”
