Just as viewers were getting to know the ladies on this year’s season of Farmer Wants A Wife, host Natalie Gruzlewski introduced a major twist. Monday night’s episode saw Farmers Corey, Thomas, and Tom each meeting four new potential matches to give them the best shot at finding love.

Unsurprisingly, the original contestants weren’t too pleased with the new arrivals and the fact that they had to compete with even more women for one-on-one time with their farmer. Many viewers and former participants have also taken issue with how this season has seemingly prioritised drama over genuine love stories, with Clare Hockings telling Yahoo Lifestyle she wishes the reality show would return to its “older style”.

Clare, who fell in love with Farmer Brad Jones in season 13 and welcomed their first child in 2023, says she completely understands why viewers have been comparing recent seasons of Farmer Wants A Wife to Married At First Sight.

“People keep saying that they they liked it when it was really wholesome and not about the drama and it was more about the actual farms and the girls having a go at doing farm work and watching someone slowly fall in love, rather than bringing new girls in and making it as competitive as it is,” she details.

“I definitely think MAFS is more intense and a lot harder mentally to film as a contestant. But, in saying that, Farmer definitely has the potential to become even more dramatic. It wasn’t as easy and breezy as I thought it would be.”

Many fans took to social media during Monday night’s episode to criticise the introduction of new women so far into the season, with one person arguing that it “ruins the show”.

“I don’t know if I like the idea of new ladies, as it doesn’t seem fair to current ones,” another added, while a third said, “Bringing more girls in is so wrong. I don’t agree with it. If you want all these girls, they should all be there in the beginning”.

“I don’t like the way they make the show here, sorry. I stopped watching it. It is all so unreal!” someone else shared, followed by a different user who replied, “You can see the shift that resembles MAFS”.

“Can we please get back to like the old shows used to be?” a fan requested, with another writing, “I cannot believe the concept of this show, it’s become as bad as MAFS. So demeaning to women”.

Meanwhile, others admitted they were excited to get to know the new women and thought their arrival “added some spice” to the season.

“I love the new girls!” one viewer commented, while another responded, “It’s a good way to test the men’s loyalty”.

“They had to bring in more girls, otherwise the show would have been done and dusted in a mere few weeks,” someone else pointed out.
