The reality star tells Yahoo Lifestyle that Farmer Tom’s farewell was as abrupt in real life as it looked on-screen.

Farmer Wants A Wife fans were left in shock this week when Farmer Tom told Emma that he felt he had a stronger connection with the other women on his farm than with her. Emma was a fan favourite and appeared to be a frontrunner for Tom’s heart, so it wasn’t long before viewers took to social media to slam Tom and the producers for the “brutal” way he broke her heart.

Perhaps the most awkward part of the encounter was the fact that Tom didn’t even hug Emma before making a quick getaway, leaving her all alone. Although they later shared a quick hug before he sent her on her way, he didn’t even wait until the car had driven off before running away from the scene.

Fans were stunned by the moment, with one writing, “I have no idea if he stayed for a bit or walked out like what the editing showed, and no hug or anything. So bad! Em, you’re a legend with a heart of GOLD. You’ll find your person.”

“Omg that was so awful did he really just up and leave?” another questioned. “Emma you can do so much better than this. You will find the right man I just know it, one that appreciates your kindness & beauty inside and out.”

Speaking with Yahoo Lifestyle, Emma confirms that Farmer Tom did leave as abruptly as it appeared on-screen, but she says it was for the best.

“Yeah, I was left there for a couple of minutes by myself, which honestly, it’s good to take a minute to think about everything that’s just happened, like I was kind of shocked [by the moment],” she says. “It looks brutal, but in a way it just gave me that space just to think, ‘OK this is happening,’ got my thoughts together and then he walked me to the car within minutes.”

Yes, you read that correctly, within minutes! She explains that after Tom broke the news, she did an exit interview, grabbed her bags and then was on her way home.

But what hurt Emma the most was being unable to say goodbye to the other girls on the farm, with whom she had become close over the weeks.

While she says that was the “worst part”, she concedes, “Maybe it was for the best, because it would just make everyone quite emotional and there was another elimination that night… But I wish I did get to say goodbye.”

“It was hard, it did hurt,” she says of her exit. “But you know, eventually you’ve got to pick on one person, so it was bound to happen, and probably for the best anyway, looking back, it wouldn’t have worked, it is what it is.”

“I wasn’t expecting to make such good friends out of [the show], to be honest,” Emma adds. “It is long, tiring days filming, and you do get emotional at the end of the day, but I wasn’t really expecting to have such a good time. I really did enjoy myself.”
